Couldn't resist it. I've been thinking about one for a while. The price makes it easy. I saw one in a local shop and it's my birthday so... I got it. I don't necessarily expect it to be the best at everything. I've already got a Swamp Rat Camp Tramp and a Gransfors Bruks Wildlife hatchet, so I'm covered. But, I'm sure I can find a niche for this new addition. :D

Souns like you made a couple of expensive mistakes but got it right in the end.;)
I have a BK7 but have never handled a Camp Tramp. Which is thinner behind the edge?

I got a BK10 and it's a Goddamned AMAZING piece of equipment! I took it camping a last week and it chopped really nice! The BK9 is the next on my list...

The BK7 is thinner behind the edge than the Swamp Rat Camp Tramp. The Camp Tramp is thicker in the spine as well, and thus is significantly heavier. I expect the Tramp to be a better chopper, which is why I got it first. I am re-working the handle on the BK7 and now like it better than that of the Tramp. The handle on the Tramp is too thin and the rubber doesn't seem as durable as that of the BK7. Both seem great. The sheath of the BK7 rattles a bit less.

Happy B-Day Eager and congrats on you B-7. The B-7 was one of my first big knives, if you want to play around with it I got some paracord and rewrapped the handle of mine.

For the price you can not go wrong, but because of the weight and comfort of the handle the Swamp Rats the better chopper.

From the Becker line, I have a BK7, BK9, and a BRUTE. The BK7 seems to holler out "use me" a little more because it's a nice combination of a big and small knife. The BK9 is great but in chopper-size comparison, it doesn't come close to the intimidation factor of the BRUTE. I only wish that the newer members of the BK* line came with kydex similar to the BRUTE and the other original members. These things are of fabulous quality and durability for the price point.
out,
Cris

Nick...I'm pleased to see that you haven't traded-off that BK-10 that you got from me, yet!.:D.

And, yes...I think that the whole Camillus/Becker line is pretty tough to beat for the price they sell for, and the BK-7 is my favorite of the group.

I filed away the bump on the rear of the handle (right side only). And sanded the handles all over with 40 and 60 grit. This made them very "grip-able", but didn't ruin them. Really. For fun I sharpened about an inch of the false edge near the tip, so it's kind of like my Camillus USMC (Model CM5685).
