Gray Micarta.jpgWell I added a new Sebenza to the collection this week. After much debating, searching, and hoping, I finally acquired a Micarta Sebenza. Not your usual black micarta, but a 2005 Gray micarta. I bought it off of a fellow forum member and I am very pleased. Of course, it is the typical Sebenza in fit and finish, but the gray micarta really sets it off in my opinion.
I was kind of depressed due to the fact I let my African Blackwood Seb and Ironwood Mnandi go in the last few weeks to fund my other addiction (Ball Watches), but this has improved my outlook greatly. Until I need another fix....been eyeballing Diamond Plate models, and Starbenza's. and the "Think Twice, Cut Once" models, and....
Well I'm sure you folks understand.

Are there two different micarta variants? One lighter grey and one darker? Because I know the micarta gets dark over time from use but
you can wash it with dish soap to get the grey back. I have a classic micarta that I bought used and it was pretty black. But I got it to
look pretty new again with a quick wash.

I'm sure the shades will vary from batch to batch. I never new there was a gray micarta that was offered, great another to track down.

I did some digging a while back and AFAIK it's all black, but "black" micarta can get very gray depending on what's on or in it. Unless someone from CRK confirms that there was a special gray run, I think it's just dry black micarta.

Ok, I dont know if this is black that just look gray, or if it is supposed to be gray. Bottom line. I think it looks good. There isnt the stark contrast as there is with the very dark micarta. I will just call it Micarta and leave it at that.

Congrats to your new aquisition.

There is only one color of micarta in use.
I asked once, because I wanted a Sebenza matching the GB.
The answer I was given was stunning. It is the same material only cut from another side.
A new micarta Sebenza looks grey and with use turns black.
There are some tipps how to restore the finish ( I did try them, but....).
All in all a cool knife, wich I'm not afraid to use!

Hope this helps

99.9999999999999999999999999% there are only 'black micarta' Sebs.

Either way, congrats on the new knife. Now to research these watches you mention :-)

I was'nt implying anything by my post so I hope I did'nt offend you. Heck I'd was hoping there was such a creature. Still congrats on a great Sebenza.

No offense taken at all! It was sold to me as a Gray Micarta. I never knew there to be a different color than black, but with many variations of the Sebenza inlays I just thought I somehow missed this one. It was my mistake for not checking this out more before I made the thread and got everybody thinking there was another color of Micarta.
Either way, I like it. I have been smitten with the Sebenza since I first read about them and Mr. Reeve many years ago. I saw my first one in person in the early 90's and bought it on the spot. I own several custom and semi-custom knives, but none of them pleases me as much as my Sebenzas. I may edc different knives, but the Sebs always find their way back into my pocket. As a side note atony, I wished I seen the Starbenza you had for sale. Story of my life is a daylate and a dollar short.

Atony,
sorry. Had you confused with someone else about selling a Starbenza. I knew you had posted something about one and thought it was you selling it. I did see you had ordered one. Did WC give you any idea on how long it would be ?

I think I might have grabbed the last one from WC or at least that batch, I did end up selling it though. I carried it around a few days and just could'nt get used to the size of it, loved everything about it except for the size.

It must have been the last one. I sentthem an email inquiring about when they would receive the next batch and was told that these were the last. I guess my only chance to own one is now down to pre-owned.

Congrats on getting a Micarta Sebenza.

I have been debating whether or not to get one myself.

Just an update.... I thought mine was pretty smooth opening until I took it apart, cleaned and lubed it, and put it back together. It could be thumbnail flicked if I wanted to open it that way now. Its really smooth . But, it may get bumped from the pocket this weekend. I found a Starbenza.
These things are like potato chips. Cant have just one.

Nice score on the Starbenza. Especially since no more batches will be made. I predict these things will raise in value in a few years.
