I've made some recent additions to my collection and have also started a little side project. First the knives:
142OT - Another of the new-style Old Timer fixed blades. I like the shorter blade on this one for use as a hunting or general outdoor knife, seems just about the right length.
Tough Grip multi-tool - These are cool, if you don't have one, you should grab one. The locking vise grips give you a usefull option over a standard m-tool. I also think it has some historical value in the Schrade history because it was a joint effort between 2 US companies.
7OT - Another great varient from the "big lockback" stable that Schrade made over the years, mines a later model with the stainless blade. I'll keep looking for a carbon model.
Schrade-Walden 163 - The prize of the bunch, looks like it was used a little, but not much. Didn't appear to have been resharpened either, what look like factory grind lines still clear on the edge. Even has the brass shackle on the end. This is a great knife and I'm not sure I'm going to use it to much, just don't want to do something stupid and ruin it. Besides, as a member of the Schrade Collectors forum, I do get to have a few drawer queens don't I?
Speaking of collecting, and it does seem that I'm making the transition to being a collector, I have been gathering up some Schrade promotional items. My intent is to get a nice bunch of Schrade branded stuff, add a few knives and put them in a nice display case of some sort. I guess I'm trying to honor the memory of the company in my own small way, capture a snapshot of their history if you will. I've bought some coffee mugs, a couple of Old Timer thermoses(I'm going to use one, to cool not to), a poncho, a deck of cards, and a knife salesmans handbook. I figure the centerpiece will be my forum knife and the collectables that came with it. I don't know what it will look like yet, its a work in progress, but I do have this idea in my head and I just have to keep plugging away until I have it all together. I'll keep you updated at odd and disjointed intervals, since I don't have a timeline. I'm also open to suggestions as to what I should put into "the display", as I'll now name this project. So, what do you think guys? My wife looks at me kind of funny, and maybe she's right, I do feel oddly compelled to do this.
