G'day All

Are there any people out ther who are addicted to multitools?

I see that a lot of people carry multiple knives in their EDC kit, but I was wondering how many people carry multiple multitools (be they leatherman, Swisstool, kershaw or any others) in their EDC.

What do you carry and why do you need the multiple multitools?

Personally I carry two or three multitools at work (hardware store) because I can never find the tools when I need them  (I even work in the tool section where all the store use tools are kept, but do you think I can ever find what I want? Noooo...:grumpy: :grumpy: )

I always carry a Leatherman Wave, Spyderco Spyderench, and sometimes a Leatherman Crunch or Squirt P4. I can usually do just about anything I need to with them and it's getting rare that I have to hunt around for any handtools now, just get it off the belt.

I carry these EVERY DAY:

Victorinox SwissTool X (on my belt)

AND...

Leatherman Squirt P4 (in a custom Kydex sheath on my Keychain)

I am not 'addicted' in the sense that I have to have a lot of tools, or that I'll buy whatever is the latest new tool, but rather in the sense that I REALLLLLLY love and rely on my tools, and that I spent a VERY long time arriving at these two. I did have a lot of other tools leftover from my search for 'the one', but I recently sold them all because I am quite satisfied with the two I now carry.

I think you'll find that A LOT of us are very passionate and particular (and opinionated) about our tools.

For example:

I GAR-UN-TEE that Glockman99 will be along shortly to say, "SOG Deluxe Pocket Power Plier" He LOVES THAT THING!!!

TOOLS GOOD!!!

Alright, I confess. Multi-tools are cool, always get a positive response from onlookers, and they can solve problems in a hurry. At work I carry a Schrade ST5E with adjustable jaws and a Leatherman Pulse for the needle nose pliers and scissors.I have just about all the other multi-tools available because each one has its own particular value (ie;Gerber Legend/wire cutters,Toolzall/wire strippers, etc.)
Away from work I carry the Leatherman Wave as it has all that I normally need...and my personal tools are close by if needed. The Wave is very handy once you figure out where everything is and is very compact considering all the stuff it has on it.

NO, I am not addicted. Emphatically not. Don't make a big issue of it just because I own about a dozen of them. Actually it depends on your definiton of multitool, it may be way more than a dozen. I AM NOT ADDICTED...

I do carry a PST2 or Pulse all the time, and a Micra in my backpack.

I carry a Leatherman SuperTool 200 in it's belt pouch at work all the time. I did EDC a Strider-Buck Mini folder but being in the UK I don't want to risk it even at work as a stop&search will mean a Police Officer gains it for himself (even if I'm carrying it in the bottom of my rucksack to & from work only)
The Leatherman's blades remain very sharp even though I tend to open cardboard boxes with it most of the time.

The ST200 is very solid and I expect it to be. It'll be a hard act to follow I think. I'm tempted to try out one of the "access the blades whilst it's closed" type models. I want replaceable wire cutting blades if possible.

The multitool is significantly superior to a "Swiss Army" knife in my experience.

I'm also interested in which multitools people carry and use.

Thanks

Al

I carry three multi-tools every day, although one hardly counts. I carry a SOG PowerPlier and a Victorinox SwissChamp XLT in horizontal belt sheaths. They each have capabilities the other lacks. And having a pair allows me to tighten bolts and handle other tasks that require two tools. (My third multi-tool is the Swiss-Tech Utili-Key that I carry on my keychain as an emergency backup.)

Daily carry: Sebertech M4 & Leatherman Pulse. They get quite a bit of use at home and at work.

Gerber legend in backpack, squirt P4 in pocket, SwissChamp in belt pouch.

I absolutely need to replace the Gerber Legend with a Swisstool (why? Because I want one!!!).

I won't even go into the rest of what's in my pockets!

Addicted? Hum!

Yeah, I believe you! About 3 years ago, I bought 5 Gerber legends for my staff (and myself, of course). 2 of them broke quite easily (both were replaced by warranty). We were never really impressed.

My wife bought a Swisstool RS for work recently (she's a computer technician) and really loves it. I find that it's much superior to the Legend.

hi i bust a gerber scout multi tool after a few weeks and the screws on the handles worked loose all the time but ive now had my swisstool for 3 1/2 years and i cant fault it ,just cant believe after so much use it is still so tight and in such good condition .

currently a lm juice s2, light and small and has all the tools i really need for casual use. wouldn't mind replacing the knife blade with a file though. I'd like to check out the swisstool and one of the sog powerpliers.

I was addicted. My current list is:

Leatherman Micra
Leatherman Wave
Leatherman Pulse
Leatherman Supertool ( STOLEN LAST WEEK   )
Leatherman Mini
Leatherman Crunch

UTICA Kutmaster
SOG Crossgrip
Wenger Swiss Pocket Grip
Swiss-Tech Micro-Tech
Swiss-Tech Micro-Plus
Swiss-Tech Mariner

I stopped however a couple of years ago, there hasn't been that much really new things. I would really like a tool that has LM style pliers and a good wire cutter like this: (just picked a random picture from google)

Not addicted - just love LEATHERMAN multi-tools!
Here's what I've got:
PST
PST II
Pulse
Supertool
Supertool 200
Mini tool
Wave
Wave (20th anniversary signature limited edtion)
Micra
Sideclip
Crunch (my favourate EDC)
Juice S2
BUT I'M NOT ADDICTED!

I have a bunch of multitools. Addicted, nah...I just like 'em. I will usually buy the latest a give away my old ones if I feel the new one is better.

Day to day, I carry a LM Juice S2 in my back pocket. Love it for it's size and function. I don't even know it there. Also I carry the LM Wave tool adaptor with about 8 different hex bits in the coin pocket of my jeans. The tool adaptor works well as a stand alone screwdriver.

I only carry a full size multitool in a bag or pouch if I feel like I need it.

i carry several multitools as being a reservist and in the printingfield requires ready access to tools-EDC is Leatherman Wave on belt, Juice in left front pocket, and a Squirt w/scissors and a Squirt with pliers in right front pocket. If in BDU's, i throw a super tool on the belt and a swiss tool as back up in the asspack. really have no experience with SOG tools-i highly recommend the Leatherman line. Only Gerber tool I like and use when on duty is the EOD tool for the crimper amd punch.

I like multitools. It's like carrying a toolbox. Frankly, it's more useful than a folder.
