I like to hit the flea markets on a regular basis and I just keep picking up old knives. Yesterday I was looking in a case and I saw a knife in a sheath that said Puma. The handle looked right, 3 very small washers with the pins peened over. The price didn't look right 10.00. Lady opened the case and I pulled the blade out. eight inches total length, 4 inches for blade and 4 for the handle. The number 84607 stamped in the small guard, very faint words maybe woodsman pal but it did have the small peck for checking hardness so I figured it was genuine. The sheath had the cat on it with the face to the right. The problem it was abused and someone took it to a grinder. I took it home and cleaned it up. Looks much better and the steel is razor sharp. Anyone else just can't leave these lonely knives alone? Wife thinks I am crazy. Regards, Loosearrow

One of my favorite pasttimes is rescuing old knives and pimping my new ones.

If I find a knife, alongside the road or elsewhere, I keep it no matter what and they instantly become favorites. Never tried to 'fix' them though, other than to clean them and get them to open and close.

When paying money though, I only buy knives in unused condition. I have enough ratty used junk of my own... :o

I started with this...found in this condition in the bottom of a garage sale tackle box...

It's cholla cactus wood and red casting resin.

does the casting resin come in that color? or is it (color) tinting the resin, either way looks cool, did you do it yourself? where can i find that casting resin?
got my gears turning now:D
all the best

You can tint the resin any color you want, it is available online or at just about any hobby shop. I also used a honey oak Minwax on the cholla after the final sanding and polishing.

And yes...I did it myself. I am going to make some scales for another project.
