Hi.
I received my Ka-Bar Becker BK7 with micarta scales a few days ago, and so far I'm really liking it. My only complaint is that it doesnt have a choil for fine work. Can any of you give me some directions as to how I can go about adding a choil to my knife? Like what tools do I need and how do I do it?

There's a number of ways you can do it. You could probably use a file, but that's gonna take forever. I use a bench grinder myself, but other folks might have other ideas.

A 3/4" Or was it 1"? sanding drum worked well for me. I chucked it into my drill press and went to town (slowly and very carfully of course;)).

Seems like you'd need to file the edge dull where you start in with a sanding drum. Otherwise the blade would cut into your drum. Correct?

I used a Dremel 4000 tool with the large grinding wheel #8193. I used a cutoff wheel for the jimping for thumb grip. I used a small perscription drug bottle about the size of a quarter in diameter, got it where i wanted it & used a silver sharpie to trace around the bottle. Then I c-clamped it to my picnic table & started grinding it. I had a spray bottle full of water & sprayed it good every 10 seconds to keep from messing up the heat treat. GO SLOW. TAKE YOUR TIME. LET THE TOOL DO THE WORK. DO NOT PRESS HARD & FORCE IT. I am VERY HAPPY with the outcome. It make the knife so much easier to use for smaller stuff. It's now like having 2 knives in one.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I am going to go for the dremel tool. It seems like a quite easy way to do it. Only problem is I dont have one :P. Going to stop by a hardware store tomorow.

Looking forward to doing this. So far the BK7 has been an excellent blade, and I cant wait to make it even better :)

Tape your sharp edge to avoid any mishaps---but if you draw blood YOU GOTTA TAKE PICS & POST EM !!! lol

Definitely make sure you clamp it down. And buy a respirator/safety glasses. You don't want to be digging metal out of your eye, or get lung cancer from the particulate later in life.

I will, thanks :) . Think I still got my shooting glasses from my army days lying around somewhere so that wont be a problem.
