Recently picked up a small fixed blade with wooden handle scales and would like to add a lanyard hole to i. Do you guys think it is possible to do this without damaging the knife?

the heat of drilling could burn or warp the scales, if the scales are removable you might be able to drill with a carbide bit.

If you want the lanyard hole to have a rope to go around your wrist so as not to loose it, I hope you have had lots of experience with this. It can be a very dangerous way to trying not to loose itIf it's to tie it into the case; make a case with a cover flap. Frank

I wouldn't do it.
Even if you have a top drillpress and top drillbits you'll damage the knife

Well I'd be lying if I said these weren't the answers I was expecting, was just hoping everyone would say it was no problem at all, EZ as pie, haha. I use the lanyard hole for a tag line (the coiled sort like a telephone cord), I work on roofs installing solar systems and trim trees professionally and fish a lot. So I use the tag line during these times to keep my knife from going to far or disappearing into a creek or lake if I drop it.

Some of my knives end up being tied to their sheaths so they don't come out and get lost while atop a horse or hiking through rivers and up steep hills. I think they are useful and attractive and I put them on some of my personal knives.

If that is what you want then give it a shot. I added a hole to a Gerber drop point. I removed the scales, made a silly putty dam around where I wanted the hole and filled the reservoir I made with cutting oil. Then with slow steady pressure I drilled the hole. Unless it's a heirloom, make it your own to fit what you need.

Are there any pins, bolts exct...and what are the locations. Could you drill the back one out and add your tube? Pictures would help too.

Just make sure you clamp the knife up tight as you can without damage in atleast two spots so the bit wont grab it and send it spinning.
