Adding a thumb stud to a 110.

I bought a couple of Bucklite Max 486's awhile back and they have the built in thumb studs. I was surprised at how easy it was to use them and decided to get a couple of the add on studs to try on a 110. I had always thought it would take too much "push" to open a 110 with them, but the 486 seems to take about the same amount of pull to open when not using the stud as does a 110.

Does anyone else use them on their 110's and if so how do you like them? I can't help but believe that the set screw is going to leave a pretty good mark on the blade if it's removed, so I'm going to try it on one of my old plain jane Wally world 110's first.

Plumb I have them on several of my EDC rotation 110's, and I
really like them. I have found that for me it is easyer to put the knife back in the sheath if I have the thumb stud turned in, so that it is facing the back of the sheath, or toward you, seems to go in easyer, and fit a little bit better. HL

I have a stud I put on my stag/dm that I have carried for the last few years (Decafe Dave/110Dave trade).

Took it to combat. Never failed me or wiggled a bit. May be a mark on the blade but since I was committed to the decision to carry it I have no issue with that.

I don't think they will leave a real bad mark though since they are a softer metal than the blade.

Do love the 486's and am looking to drop one of those into a 110 frame if possible!

I have the older ones and a bunch of the new ones. They work great! They do leave a small dimple on the back of the blade. It almost looks like the old Pumas that had the Rockwell test mark on them....lol...I like them for the user 110s and 112s. They fit best on the 110s.

I am having Steve Rice add a thumbstud and titanium clip for right-hand tip down carry for my son's 110. The price was really very reasonable. I'll try to post pictures when I get it back, or ask Steve to show it in his work in the STR Knifeworks forum if I have any problem posting pictures.

Viking, welcome to the forum, I'll be interested to see the pics. I assume this is a permanent thumbstud?
