Has anybody ever added a thumstud to a GEC or a Case? If so, is it hard and is there someone I can send my knife to and get it customized without breaking the bank? I have been looking for a one handed traditional and all of the current, non-custom offerings don't really interest me. I feel as if it wouldn't be too hard to do. Just drill a hole in the blade, add the stud, and then cut out room on the scales. So if anybody can point me in the right direction, please do so!

Thanks
-Kris

You can buy a "kwik" thumbstudd brass or nickel or a thumb bar that screwdown online. Just Google kwik thumbstud.

I tried putting a qwik thumb stud on a Queen Country Cousin slipjoint. I could not open with one hand. I haven't tried anything with a lighter pull though. I too would like a nice one handed opening traditional. What knife are you going to use as your base?

Wow that is exactly what I was talking about. Do you know of a tutorial for that?

No tutorial that I know of. Once my shop is up & running I can do it for you, but it'll be another couple of weeks. I have to re-blade a worn out Buck 110, so I can just add yours to the job.

Wow thanks for the offer Chris. The couple weeks timeframe is good because there will be a gun and knife show in a couple of weeks in my town. I am hoping to get it there and be able to handpick one. How much would it cost to have you do it for me?

And for Squashfan, I am looking at one of the lock back models. They tend to be easier to open than slip joints, my Buck 501 can be flicked out.

Yes but I don't like they way Case Trappers look opened. They spine and back of handle aren't straight and gives the knife a broken appearance.
