Adding sharpening choil to native 5LW

I've had my native 5 for 8 months now and I've noticed how annoying it is to sharpen close to the finger choil. What are your opinions of me adding a sharpening choil? I just hate when I bump the top of the finer choil on my stones.

My plan is to just use a round micro file to make a choil, would you do it differently?

Keep bumping... sharpening notches/choils are pointless. They do nothing but snag on materials being cut and do absolutely nothing for the sharpener. It's a solution to a non-existent problem.

With no disrespect to Jason, at my skill level, and using diamond plate, it's useful (preventing heavy wear or tear out at the edge of the stone). If using wearable stones like waterstones, it may not be a problem. Stone used is to be considered.

It can be made sharp and not snagging:

Not my video, I used similar approach after watching his video.

Great video, even though it's not yours!

A few questions: how long does it take to make the notch with the diamond file?

Is there a diamond file you recommend for this?

Do you immobilize the blade to file it or have any suggestions on how to hold and position things for best results?

I don't know what he used. He's Unit on this forum, perhaps you can also ask him.

I use cheap china round diamond coated file. Better control if blade is clamped in a vise (put some tape/cloth to protect the blade). Actually I did free hand and sometime slip (bad results )

None taken, I just have a rather strong opinion of them so I don't sugar coat it :D
