Hello Folks,
First time poster in this section so bear with me:
I recently purchased a Redemption and while I found the blade profile intriguing, the grip was too smooth for my taste. After looking at the handle carefully, I decided that I really liked the knife's unique look and decided to modify the grip instead of sending it back.
Luckily, I work extensively with plastics as I make custom pistol grips and handguards for firearms using specialized urethane plastics. What I realized was that given the G10 composite handle, I could use 80/90 grit Aluminum Oxide blast media in my blast cabinet at about 90 PSI to abrade the surface as the handle material would erode at differing rates.
I then took the blade and wrapped it carefully in duct tape and proceeded to blast the handle for about 10 minutes until I got the texture I wanted. The difference in grip was remarkable.
I use a special beeswax formulation to "topcoat" or finish the frosted surface on plastics to bring back the original color and that's what I did on the Redemption.
So, the end result is a far more positive grip and it is visually even more striking as the "grain" of the handle shows up. I am very pleased how it turned out.
All I have is my phone's camera right now so my apologies for the low quality photos:
So, back to work. I'll have to take it out one of these days when I have more time. With the weighting, it reminds me of a short khukri. I hope this gives someone else ideas if they like the Redemption but want a more sure grip.
Best wishes to all,
Ronin
