I saw some forumees added a thumstud (called "bandit") to their knives and looks very cool. Does anyone know where can I find such thumstuds and how firm it can be installed on a blade?

Thanks!

I have the 'one-arm-bandit' on my Tomcat...fit is solid...I haven't had any problems with mine...

I've also mounted a "one - armed bandit" on my Tomcat, and can confirm that it works well and is extremely solid.

hmm intresting.....Those non ambidexterous knives can now be used in the left pocket as well.

Now if they could only make some sort of clamp on clothing hook to emmulate wave style openings on knives that have no hole for a zip tie.

Any truth to the rumor that Spyderco is working on a aftermarket add on hole for use on non Spyderco knives?

:D ;)

that's funny that u should mention that about the add on spydie hole.. cuz one day i saw a CRKT Sampson's KISS on ebay that had the thumbstud removed and a fake Spyderco Round Hole drilled through the blade.. from what i remember the guy was trying to sell it as a "prototype spyderco knife designed by ed halligan"
heh..

While I'd love to have one of those, it'd be patent infringement. OR trademark infringement. Or copyright infringement. Whichever. I'd reference the thread where someone was planning to make them/had found someone who made them, but I can't search (which is also why I'm shaky on the details).

I will sell anyone on the forums round holes. They're $15 apiece, but you have to install:D

Can I get this one arm opener from any other sellers? The shipping fee of the eknifeworks is even higher than the bandit itself!

This thread is amazing, since I have been thinking about posting the same question, as I've been looking for one of these "bandits" to put on MY SOG Tomcat. Does anyone have one they'd like to part with, to fit my Tomcat? (I have a NIB Photon 3 that I'd trade for one...).

Dann - I think you'll find that the "one - armed bandit" works well on the Tomcat. Actually, it works great, not well. I mounted mine on the thickest part of the blade, above the choil, so that the thumbstud is barely separated from the bolster when the blade is open. That way the thumbstud doesn't interfere with slicing or deep cutting (because the one - armed bandit is bulkier than a normal thumbstud), but I can still easily open the blade with one hand.

By the way, the one - armed bandit comes in two sizes. Make sure you get the bigger of the two; the smaller size won't fit onto the Tomcat's thick blade.

Is "The One-Armed Bandit" ambidexurous? If I clamp one on a blade, will I be able to open it left or right handed?

Bruise

On side of the one - armed bandit is knurled, while the other is not. You can use either hand to open a knife with a one - armed bandit, but the knurled, grippier side will be a little easier to use.
