Adding traction to EDCF Manix 2

Ive got a second run EDCF Spyderco Manix 2 with glow in the dark scales. Excellent knife, but the scales are way too slick. Can the scales be bead-blasted for added traction or is there a reason Syderco made the scales smooth?

I thought about adding skateboard tape, but the stuff i got is like coarse sandpaper...it destroys any pocket it comes into contact with.

Any tips?
