Hello, I'm new here. I was browsing through the latest issue of Tactical Knives when I came across the review of the Benchmade 42. It reminded me of when I was about 10 or 11 and had a balisong knife that I used to be quite good at manipulating. I believe it was a Pacific Cutlery model (I remember the handles were heavy stainless), but alas, it is gone now and I know not where. Anyway, it got me in the mood to revisit this pastime. I'm waiting on a Jaguar to arrive in the mail and am mulling over getting a 42 later.
Now, for the meat and potatoes. I saw in the article a close up picture of the Model 42's latch gate. I was wondering if a similar thing might be improvised on other knives. First, I considered adding a block of aluminum in the grove, or some other metal and using Lock-Tite to hold it in place. Then I was thinking perhaps a hole drilled clean through the handle and a pin driven through to serve as the improvised latch gate. Anyone else considered this? Tried it?
