The weather sucked today, so I got some stuff down around the house. Milani74 invited me out to camp out at Mistletoe (I can tell you he doesnt post much because hes always out backpacking and hiking!), but the in-laws are coming in this week and my wifes to-do list is bigger than I expected.
Anyways, a little down time and I caught a couple of bluegills with my fly rod and a grasshopper dry-fly. As I was contemplating on filleting up with my BT knife I was wearing, I just didnt want to make a mess, so I dug around in the drawer of knives and grabbed my old Marbles bird-trout blade. After looking at it, I thought it might make a nice addition to the BT survival sheath.
Ed Martins outstanding horizontal sheath is set up with a sharpening pouch and firesteel. I found my Goinggear large firesteel with the handle container (holds two large Vaseline/cottonballs) and the excellent Fallkniven DC4 two-sided sharpener (diamond on one side and a very fine ceramic on the other side). I was able to slide the small Bird & Trout in the same pouch as the firesteel. The large inner-tubing bands keep everything snug and secure. I thought it would be too bulky, but it sits well and you can do everything from driving my truck to fly fishing with no discomfort and its much easier to access the blade and return it to the sheath.
Comparison shot with my Bravo-1:
I found it interesting that the eye of the small Bird & Trout fit perfectly around the snap of the sharpening stone pouch!
Turned out to be a nice little package:
For my first time filleting these small panfish, the Bird & Trout was pretty handy!
