Most troubles I had was because of breathing metal or abrasive dust. Especially with Dremel. I found that even DMT D8XC produce enough pollution to cause problem.

I also found that simple paper face mask does not work at all if you have dust flying around in the air.

Thanks, Vassili.

Ventilate your shop. Dust produced by grinding steel or handle materials is toxic, so are the abrasives used to cut and grind. I use an exhaust fan together with a dust collection system to control airborne dust.

I've found the same thing as Vassili. Bufford, I live in a townhouse in the city with no shop.

BTW, I have found I no longer get along with even minute amounts of light oils & solvents any longer after a career/lifetime of guns & knives, being an armorer as well as a private collector.

We do the best we can. Joe

Another thing to avoid is wearing running shoes while grinding, you'll have a hard time cleaning a shoe stuffed with metal dust .

I guess this is my most concern - most of knife enthusiast does not have shop and so does not have ventilation systems as professional sharpeners and in result using this electric wheels which are for use in the shop only with proper ventilation-filtration.

Result is terrible and not only for whoever use this but for everybody who lives there. Professionals who have shop get used to it and assume that ventilation is already in use, so they forget to mention that for paper wheels for example or belt belt grinder which are excellent for sharpening - professional ventilation system is mandatory requirement, unless all your family wearing gas masks.

Thanks, Vassili
