Additions to med kits

I have noticed a lot of the simple med kits don't come with a tub of neosporin, but I have to say after last night I am ready to add some to mine.

While carving my pumpkin with my f1 last night, I accidentally cut my finger. So I put some neosporin on with a bandaid and it healed up over night. I have had paper cuts that lasted longer than that.

neosporin

always add extras to your med kit,,,you never know

tylenol
asprins
band aids , ect

I added a tube of the super glue like wound sealer to my kit but I'd like to get some of that super duper blood stopping powder too.

Superglue is a VERY useful addition to a first aid kit.

Also don't forget some Pepto-bismol, and (very important) anti-diarrheal medication.

Any basic kit should include:
- Ibuprofen
- Benadryl
- Loperamide (Immodium)
- Pepto-Bismol

I always pack as additions to my FAK
Motrin
Pepto
Benadryl
neosporin
iodine
purel
and a topical benadryl stick

I know its laughable but I always have Immodium pills in my backpack first aid kit. Getting intestinal cramps on the trail would be a nightmare!

Ain't nothing laughable at all about it, EVERY kit should have some.

I also add a small dental repair kit to mine.

Nothing can ruin a trip worse than a tooth ache!

I started with a coleman first aid kit. The one in the little red bag. that bag had many miles on it. about two years ago I moved the contents to a lock-n-lock container.I have replaced, added, or redid till the only thing left from the original kit is the tiny band aids. I go through it about once a month and update stuff that is close to use by date.
It includes:
Iodine tabs
moleskin
biofreeze
pepto tablets, 8 tabs
assorted asprin,advil,tylenol 5 2 packs
sudofed ,3 2packs
generic immodium 2 tablets
5 assorted anti-septic wipes/alcohol pads
pack of rolaids soft chews
anti-septic/burn cremes 3 packs
6 standard size band aids
5 small band aids
1 fingertip band aid
1 knuckle band aid
5 butterfly band aids
1 large band aid 4.5x2
tape strips
Gauze pads
1 3x3
2 3x2
2 2x2
This all fits in (barely) a lock-n-lock container 4"x3"x1.75"
The superglue is a good idea but I don't think I could get it in my box
Beside this kit I carry hand sanitizer, extra ibuprofen, and a tube of vaselene lip balm in my bag. plus duct tape if I need more tape

Can't use it because I have a nephew who is severely allergic to it.

Have to use a double antibiotic, bacitracin/polysporin only.

We have a local med supply place that sells the individual dose packets, great dual purpose.

Medical, or, with some of the cotton balls stashed in the kit, fire starting...

I added Coban to my kit instead of tape it's self sticking and reusable
also have a small tube of Vaseline makes good chapstick etc and it
works with cotton balls or whatever tinder you can find..

Superglue is a huge winner. One of my German Shepherds was bleeding badly when we clipped her nail too high. A drop of superglue stopped it immediately. My wife thought it was silly until she cut her hand with a kitchen knife and it was soaking through the bandage she put on, a couple of drops of superglue later and she was a believer. I've also used it on blisters on my feet with great success.

I'll second this! Twice I've used my PSK/mini FAK that had a few Imodium pills in them. Try getting stuck on a helo ride (in a combat zone) for a few hours with explosive diarrhea:eek: This is no laughing matter and in extreme conditions could lead to dehydration and death (I won't event discuss the sanitation problems:barf:).

They do make individual packets of antibiotic ointment...those can be an infection saver.

I like the idea of adding Super glue...here are few other's that get added to my small IFAK's...

Imodium
Benadryl
Butterfly strips
Large bandaids (the 4" by 3/4" ones)
Knuckle bandaids (just love them)
Needles and dental floss
Moleskin
Sliver Grippers

cayenne capsules, the ones people take for circulation, is a good blood stop for small stuff that won't stop bleeding. Open the capsule, pour on cut. Be fore warned You better be on the toilet, because when it hits the cut your going to p!$$ youself.

What's the size/depth limit for a wound on which you could use super glue in an outdoors or survival situation? I know it's not a good idea to close large wounds in the field due to the risk of contamination, but I gather from this and other threads that using superglue to close small cuts is relatively low risk.
