Adds in innapropriate places

Lately I've been seeing annoying adds in places that they should not exist. It's the type of add that links to a word in a text and gives you that annoying pop up when you hover over it. I was just getting them here and there but then I started getting them on Bladeforums. I though about putting this in service and support, then I noticed one on an online exam through my school's system, that didn't seem right, and then I got one in a personal e-mail. I ran Malwarebytes, and Windows Security, and they aren't finding any viruses but this is getting pretty irritating. I'm running Windows 7 and the latest version of Firefox. Anyone know of some way I can make these stupid things disappear?

Spend some money on a good antivirus program with a built in sandbox for browsing. At work we've had a lot of viruses hit the last 2 weeks. One of them took about 10 hours to remove. I would recommend Trendmicro Internet Security or similar. Oh, and before anyone chimes in about getting a Mac, 2 of the 7 computers infected were indeed Macs. :p

I think I might have solved the problem, something called Yontoo. I got rid of it and I don't see the adds anymore. I thought it was odd that NJDEP had adds all over their site for Viagra.

I run Firefox with their Addblocker Plus plug-in. Skimlinks, banners, sidebar adds, it obliterates them all, and pages load twice as fast. Best of all, if somebody manages to slip in something that FF doesn't recognize, I have a right-click menu to tell Addblocker to nuke it.

Yeah, that Yontoo thing: a lot of automatic updates from Windows, and even some "reputable" third party suppliers now put these things on your computer whether you want them or not. I open Task Manager and check what all is running every so often. If I see something I don't recognize, I'll chase it down and annihilate it from whatever directory it's wormed itself into! Die Ask! Die!!

SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes are two wonderful free cleaners for your computer. Also look at getting CCleaner as well as WiseCleaner. All these are free cleaners and they will catch and clean 99.9999999% of the crap on your computer. I run everything listed above with a thorough defrag every weekend and after every download I do (game, music, picture, ect. download). I do not run any extra virus protection minus the standard firefox protections, but since I do scans regular I rarely pick up a bug (maybe one every other month).

If you want active virus protection look at StopZilla. They where the only virus protection that caught a nasty bug that dang near crashed my dads computer a few years ago. They preform regular definition updates to keep up to date with current little bugs running around the internet.

If you are into downloading from torants or other various places, I recommend using Peerblock. Peerblock is just that, a peer to peer blocker. It as well is free to download and and it helps out a lot when downloading form strange places or torants.

SuperAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes are just anti virus/pop ups,malware/ ect. cleaner. CCleaner and WiseCleaner are both glorified registry cleaners and Stopzilla is an active running virus protection program ( you do have to buy that one). Peerblock is as I said before. Everything is free to download and use minus Stopzilla.
