What is the quickest, easiest way to remove adhesive from the disc of my disc sander? Don't want to have bumps or raised spots underneath the new sanding disc.

There should be a big tall can of "Adhesive Remover" at your local hardware store. Works better than anything else.

I spent about five minutes doing this day before yesterday with dishsoap and steel wool.

if you have epoxy that just won't come off,try some Hughes Asso. "Attack" it will dissolve most resins.

i use nail polish remover on most things.
most is just acetone but some are acetone free. mine is the no acetone variety, i think either would work.

Well, my disc is aluminum, too. But it's old. So it's not a perfectly smooth, count-your-nosehairs kind of disc to start out with. On some level, yeah, I'm sure the steel wool scratches the surface up. In my case, there was no noticeable scratching.
Hope that helps. :o

It does. I have never changed the disc before and I don't know how careful (paranoid?:)) to be about these things. I would love something that magically removes it, but steel wool and soap I will likely always have on hand.

I use WD40 and a scotch brite pad. You can get the pads in different grades. If you will check McMaster Carr they have a selection. I prefer the white. This is a fine grade. When you put the disc on you might want to try this. Peel the paper off half way on the back of the disc. Fold it down. Push this side down the front side of the disc on the sander. Press the exposed area to the face of the disc and press it on until it sticks. Turn the disc until the protective sheet comes to the top surface. Pull the backing off and press the sanding disc onto the face of the sanding plate. Now rotate the plate and use your hand to press on the disc to make sure it is stuck to the plate. This is a simple way to put a fresh disc on. When I remove the old one, I pull the disc loose and fold it down and stick the surfaces together and rotate the spindle and pull on the disc as I rotate. The 2 surfaces stuck together will keep the disc from sticking to the plate as you rotate it to remove the worn disc.

Try an adhesive remover. One called Goo comes to mind.
Check your Home Depot cleaning aisle or go to a Janitorial Supply store.
