With the oily nature of these two woods
do I need to use a different adhesive than
the 24 hour two part I have been using?
I plan on using pins as well but had not
given the adhesive any thought.

What about a finish for these two woods?
Thanks You folks are the greatest.

You can also drill a bunch of small holes, say 1/8" deep in the slabs. This will give the glue more surface to adhere to.

Thanks guys! If I can get this critter ground I'll put some handles on.
Thanks again.
Thanks Steve

Hello,

On all my handles,,, even if they are of the hidden tang, or Slab handle,or whatever.i always Sand blast the Tang area, and the Mating surfaces of the handle, then clean with Acetone, and Assemble with BROWNELL`s ACRA-GLAS GEL.

Also a good Trick is to get the powdered Steel Dust BROWNELLS offers and mix in with the ACRA-GLAS as this creates a Matrix when bonded to a full tang blade that as you Clamp the Blade up, Allows through the Grit size of the Powdered steel in the ACRA-Glass
to maintain a Given Depth of the BOND when Clammped down to where you dont Squish all the Bonding Agent out from Between the handle and tang when you clamp it up to Cure.
