We knocked out another bucket list trip with a great time in the Adirondacks. We landed in the hidden gem of St. Regis Falls, NY, an absolutely beautiful spot roughly 30 miles south of the Canadian border.

A long drive but after some exploring we popped up the Oztent on the banks of the St Regis river. Turned out to be one of our all time favorite campsites. Even if it did cost ten bucks a night.

We were twenty feet from the water and a couple of hundred feet downstream from the falls.

Not a bad spot. :D

Had a dandy little fireplace.

And a pretty decent view from the front porch.

When you need a fire, it's BK4 time....

Supper the first night was spuds baked in the coals......

I'm a believer in multi uses for your gear...

A wonderful night's sleep listening the water and a leisurely breakfast of what else...

The kitchen and dining room had the same view as the bedroom.

It started clouding up mid-morning so we threw on the rain fly. I've always loved Baker style tents and I'll have to say this Oztent is the bomb. So glad we settled on this one for our mobile base camp setup.

Well fed and ready for a day of paddling on the river we headed upstream from the falls.

It was a peaceful and beautiful place. We spent the day exploring the river.

We wound up spending the next five nights at St. Regis hiking, paddling and doing some world class relaxing. Will never forget that place.

Finally had to pack up and head south as bad as we hated to. We went all the way down through Adirondack park and took the time to enjoy the magnificent views.

Went through the finger lakes area and spent the day at Watkins Glen doing the gorge hike. You could start at the top and hike down or at the bottom and hike up. It was only a seven hundred foot elevation change, so we hiked up. Actually, I was not aware you could take a shuttle up and hike down. These are the kind little "slip ups" that make a trip fun. :D

Worth it though. Here's why...

These people were wondering what the hell is this guy doing??

Nineteen waterfalls later we hit the top or the gorge and it was just a gentle slope and a wide trail up to the shuttle.

We had a great time in New York. Friendly folks, beautiful scenery and we are looking forward to going back for some trout fishing next time.

Oh yeah.....spent some time visiting these fine folks too.......:D

Thanks for looking,

Wow…what a beautiful place to set up your base camp. That fireplace is epic! Nothing like falling asleep next to the sounds of the river. Looks like a great time spent in a very scenic spot. Thanks for the wonderful pics.

Loves me some waterfall action! [emoji106]

Wow Trade! Truly awesome pics.
Looks like you guys had a blast.
I think you might have broken that bearded gentlemans hand when you flashed the Tradewater...

WowTrade what a beautiful spot to camp and explore. Thanks for sharing your adventure with us! Looks like you ate good to. Any new steel? :)

Nice pics! Thanks for sharing. I havent spent enough time in that part of the world. Looks like a wonderful place. You couldnt ask for a nicer campsite.

Damn, Trade....great photos. I spent a fair amount of time bumming around the Adirondacks in the 80's (went to school in Potsdam, ~30 miles from St.Regis), but it's nice to see some pics as reminders. And definitely go back for some trout fishing; NY has some of the most outstanding rivers in the country for browns, brookies and rainbows. Totally great photo reel. Actually makes me want to venture out of NH and revisit the Adirondacks....

nice!
congrats on getting to take your trip - 4 months later than planned.....

Geez, you had the time of my life! Thanks for the commentary and the pics. Gorgeous place to visit!

Thanks for the pictures, that tent looks like a good base camp setup .wouldn't want to hike it into the back country .
I just looked at the Oztent site. What model is yours?
I have seen a little of that area and the finger lakes. It is worth the time.
You should have done the Trade stance in front of the KaBar building.

Great photos, looks like an awesome trip. That is a great looking tent you have there, you mentioned "Oztent", is that the manufacturer? I would definitely want to look into one to replace my old canvas "cabin" tent. I will have to do some on line searching. If you have some recommendations on who carries it or where I should look please pass it on. Adirondacks are a great place to explore, I was up there a few times near Lake Champlain. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the comments everybody, I highly recommend making the trip.

Collateral damage. He shouldn't have looked directly at me.

Thanks man. Potsdam was one cool town. We hung out there some and loved it. Some amazing saloons. I'm betting it was awesome to matriculate there.

It's an RV5. We've got the side panels but didn't zip them on. I'm putting a stove jack in it for winter camping.

You know it..:D Kay gifted her beloved 15 to an Alaskan guide that we watched fly fishing for a couple of hours right in front of the tent. He was a poet with a fly rod and just one hell of a nice/interesting fellow that we shared quite a few hours/beers with around the campfire.....so that HAD to be replaced. And I picked up a leather stacked MK1 and Cutlass Machete. The MK1 is a personal favorite of mine and I've had the kraton handled version for several years. The leather stacked handle is a completely different feel and I absolutely love it. The machete is a quiet chainsaw that will actually outchop my Warlock.

I think there is only one distributor for them in the US. At least there was when we bought this one. They are based in Florida and shouldn't be hard to track down.
