We knocked out another bucket list trip with a great time in the Adirondacks. We landed in the hidden gem of St. Regis Falls, NY, an absolutely beautiful spot roughly 30 miles south of the Canadian border.
A long drive but after some exploring we popped up the Oztent on the banks of the St Regis river. Turned out to be one of our all time favorite campsites. Even if it did cost ten bucks a night.
We were twenty feet from the water and a couple of hundred feet downstream from the falls.
Not a bad spot.
Had a dandy little fireplace.
And a pretty decent view from the front porch.
When you need a fire, it's BK4 time....
Supper the first night was spuds baked in the coals......
And these.....
I'm a believer in multi uses for your gear...
A wonderful night's sleep listening the water and a leisurely breakfast of what else...
The kitchen and dining room had the same view as the bedroom.
It started clouding up mid-morning so we threw on the rain fly. I've always loved Baker style tents and I'll have to say this Oztent is the bomb. So glad we settled on this one for our mobile base camp setup.
Well fed and ready for a day of paddling on the river we headed upstream from the falls.
It was a peaceful and beautiful place. We spent the day exploring the river.
We wound up spending the next five nights at St. Regis hiking, paddling and doing some world class relaxing. Will never forget that place.
Finally had to pack up and head south as bad as we hated to. We went all the way down through Adirondack park and took the time to enjoy the magnificent views.
Went through the finger lakes area and spent the day at Watkins Glen doing the gorge hike. You could start at the top and hike down or at the bottom and hike up. It was only a seven hundred foot elevation change, so we hiked up. Actually, I was not aware you could take a shuttle up and hike down. These are the kind little "slip ups" that make a trip fun.
Worth it though. Here's why...
These people were wondering what the hell is this guy doing??
Nineteen waterfalls later we hit the top or the gorge and it was just a gentle slope and a wide trail up to the shuttle.
We had a great time in New York. Friendly folks, beautiful scenery and we are looking forward to going back for some trout fishing next time.
Oh yeah.....spent some time visiting these fine folks too.......
Thanks for looking,
trade
