I am taking a trip this summer to the Adirondack Mountains to hike the great range (hopefully) I decided to make a knife for the trek. I know it is a bit larger than you would normally want for hiking, and it has a little bit of heft to it, but I designed it to be able to choke up on the handle for detail cutting, and hold the handle normally for chopping.

Let me know what you think.

I like it. Looks like a great user. A lot fo the knives that you can choke up on have such huge ricassos that I don't like them. This one looks just right.

Hope your trip goes well.

man, that's sweet. is the swedge sharpened, and what are the chances of getting a spine shot?

I was gone for the day, so sorry about the late reply. First of all, the swedge is not sharpened. That is a no-no in NY. I will include a pic of the spine (although I didnt set up the light tent, so the pic is kinda crappy) but it gives a sense of the file pattern.

Here are the specs

forged 5160, cocobolo handle with 4 steel pins and one mosaic and a lanyard hole.

blade (from tip to front of handle) - 6"

OAL - 12"

I was thinking a kydex sheath. Leather would probably look nicer, but I am making it to take a beating in the mountains, and kydex is just less maintenance (not to mention, cheaper)

Glad you like it.

I should probably fill in a couple spots on the spine where the epoxy didnt completely fill, but as I said, this will be my knife and a user, so I am not too concerned.
