Adjusting a 42

When using a bm torx kit to tighten the handle pins, I can just slightly adjust the pin on the safe handle so that it is too tight where the blade does not move. But when adjusting the pin on the bite handle, no matter how much I adjust the pin the blade is still loose. If I tighten the pin anymore, Im afraid it will crack the handle (to give you an idea of how tight the pin is already). Is this normal?

Also, I tried to remove the latch, and although I completely removed its pin, the latch is still securely on there; the dang thing wont come off! And no matter how tight the latch pin is, the latch is still really loose and gets in the way

Any ideas?

thx..

well the other side of the pin is pressure fitted in, so have a fun time trying to get it out

and if you cant get the bite handle tighter, you may want to send it into Benchmade

I don't believe those are meant to be tension adjusting screws. They should screw down tight without the blade pivots binding in the handles, so don't over tighten them. That doesn't explain why you have one that binds the blade and one that doesn't though.

If I tighten the Torx on both handles of both of my 42's they bind the blade. I think that's how it's supposed to be.

Take a good look into the pivot point of your Balisong. Can you see the two thin washers (one on each side)in there??

Or maybe the pressure fitted side of the Pivot pin was pushed in too far (or just too long perhaps)???

Because......
getting 'em open
is half the fun!

I got my pressure fitted screw (latch) out by backing out the torxs head screw and tapping on the handle of the screw driver. Loc-tite will also work. Check and see if you have all four washers at the pivot points.

I finally got the bite handle to bind the blade. But I really had to apply a lot of dangerous pressure; I was close to striping the threads of the screw. It's just strange because I can apply just the slightest bit of pressure on the free handle and it completely binds the blade so that it doesnt move at all.

All four washers are in there; I removed the pins to make sure. But, with both handle-pins completely removed, there was a lot of play in the bite handle while the free had very little. Im guessing the space in the bite handle, where the tang of the blade is inserted is a little wider than usual. At least my 42 feels so much better now. It used to rattle previously.

FIVE days now without smoking, boy it's hard! The gum sorta helps though. Wish me luck!
