Hi Guys,

I'm new here on the forum so I hope everything works out fine. I'm from the Netherlands, and I just ordered (for the first time) three knives form Buck: the Alpha hunter folding, the Nighthawk and the 819 signature series. Besides of that I also bought the 3-stone sharpening device.
I ordered everything from Bestkives at the net which I only can higly recommend for their outstanding services.
The knives are great, just as I expected from Buck, however, the Alpha Hunter shows the following problem: when adjusting the liner lock for the smoothest possible operation with no play on the blade, it occurs that, after opening and closing the knife a few times, the screw unlocks itself and you get too much play on the blade, after which you heve to re-adjust again.
Is this problem known, is this normal behaviour for linerlocks in general, and how to solve this? Of course I can use loc-tite, but this doesn't seem the right cure for such a professional knife to me.....

Who can help me along with this?

Ad58, if you remove the screws and examine them, you'll see that Buck puts Loc-Tite on them during final assembly. However, as you make adjustments and break the seal, you lose some of the Loc-Tite grip. So, just remove the pivot screw, clean off the old Loc-Tite and put a new drop on the screw. It should fix your issue.

Good luck, -Alex

Thnx for your answers already!

By the way, the knife had already blade play when it came out of the box, that's the reason why I started to adjust it in the first place! By examination there seems to besome kind of glue on the screws. Do you know which loc-tite to use: the red or blue version?

thnx

If you cant find suitable Locktite, try regular household glue. Here it's called 'Elmers" it actually can be broke loose if necessary, but holds well.

Can red Lock-Tite be broken if necessary and what kind of Lock-Tite does Buck use during assembling?

Yes it can.

Zoo

And Buck uses red Locktite. It may be that a few got through with out any LT on the screws. It's happened before on the Odyssey series.I ended up at a walmart that didnt have any Locktite, so thats how I ended up with the glue.
