What would be the easiest way to lighten up the detent on a knife? I could polish the detent hole, polish/sand the detent ball itself, or can I push the detent ball deeper in its place? I'm not sure the proper way to go about this

I always start with adjusting the lockbar tension, it's the easiest to do/undo with immediate effect. If I wind up with lock slip or rock before the detent is where I like it then I move on to the other methods you mentioned :)

Can you give any advice on doing that? Do i just slightly bend the frame lock?

Yup, just a little bit then reassemble and test:).
