Adjustment of Military's Torx pivot?

First I must say my Military has zero problems at all.

That said, I have been wondering IF the pivot screw ever becomes loose (again, it has not), is it deemed acceptable by Spyderco to remove it, put on some blue Loctite and adjust it back, or does the knife have to be sent back to Spyderco for that?

For the record, I don't disassemble my knives, but have adjusted/readjusted several of my Benchmades' torx pivot screws and wonder what Sal would think of doing that with the Millie.

IMO, I would send it back to Spyderco. From what I understand, if you disassemble a Spydie, you will void the warranty. :(

Good Luck.

The millie does not have just a standard torx pivot.

it has an excentric(sp?) pivot, made of a pin with 12(?) sides. You have to take it apart and move the pin around a few spots, then put it back together. There is a member-made tutorial on this topic, I might have the link kicking aorund somewhere...

your best bet though is to send it in to warrenty and repair for them to do it.

You can remove the torx side of the pivot without disturbing the eccentric assembly: just keep the other side of the pivot in the handle. Now apply some lok-tite and set to desired tightness.

I seriously doubt if doing this voids the warranty but I certainly can't speak for Spyderco.

I will say this, contrary to what I had believed before, Spyderco's warranty isn't necessarily void after disassembly.
Spyderco’s warranty does not cover damage caused by abuse, misuse, improper handling, alteration, accident, neglect, disassembly, or improper sharpening.

This is the only mention of disassembly in the warranty. I take this to mean that damage caused by disassembly is not covered, but if a manufacturing fault is found and it was not caused by your disassembly it will still be covered. I don't know this for sure: it is only my own interpretation of the warranty. Spyderco has the final word.

EDIT - btw, I think it's overkill to send in your Military just to have lok-tite applied to the pivot.
