I am very interested in buying some stock and having Admiral CNC it for me. They carry my favorite steels ( 440V,BG42, A2, etc. ) Has anyone had this done or can vouch for Admiral as a whole.

Much appreciated my friends :D (finally gonna make my own knife!! :D

I haven't ever used their CNC cutting...but I have bought nearly all of my steel from them...both stainless for stock removal and simple carbon for forging...and have always been treated very well.

Terry Summers is the man to ask for if you call. The knife steel is his department. He is a great guy and is always very friendly.

I have heard some negative comments about their steel, but I can't say that I have noticed any of them in my orders. :)

i also have had good results with terry at admiral.i have them laser profile some of my culinary knives.

Rhino,

Can you describe to me the extent of their laser profile? How so they look when the show up? Loads of burrs, etc?

Thanks Muchly,

there are some burrs, i just have the blanks over sized by a little over 1/32". your are going to take a little finishing any way.

I've seen the results of their laser cutting on 3/16" thick 440C. It'll be about as rough as 36-grit, with a large burr of molten steel, and the edge will be hardened from the heat of the laser. You'll need to take a bit of metal off to get rid of the slag, so oversize slightly, you might have to take off as much as 1/16 or so on the grinder. It might be a lot better results if you use thinner steel.

I appreciate all your comments fellas. Has anyone had them CNC cpm440V? It's one of my favorites, but a real pain to work with from what I read.

Thanks

lesole, go easy on yourself and start with a carbon or 440c, ats-34 before you get into the hard to work stuff. i also think you will enjoy it more doing it your self. instead of a pre machined blade.
