I am looking to get some CPM154 and Admiral steel has some great prices. Anybody use them or have any problems with their steels?

I order stainless steel from Admiral about twice a year. I also buy from Pop's and Jantz knife supply. I have never had a problem with them (Admiral) . I like to order online and so I almost never order from Aldo at New Jersey only because I do not like to talk on the phone .It is much easer for me to study the prices online and order. I have noticed some negative comments about Admiral on this forum and felt compelled in fairness to offer my experience. I like Pop's the best but have no gripe with Jantz or Admiral. Thank God we have some choices! Larry

Darn "Reply to Thread" button immediately above the "Quick Reply" typing box.!!! This has wiped out my message too many times.

Anyway. I will re-type.

I have ordered almost all of my knife steel from Admiral. I only have good words for what I have received. I get on-line, order, and it shows up at my door in a very strong package. I usually have to cut the ends off of the cardboard packaging tubes with my band saw because it's the easiest way to get to my bar stock.

If you require blanchard or precision ground stock, then I don't thing Admiral offers it. You may have to purchase shorter pieces at higher prices from other vendors to get this.

I've ordered from Aldo and never had to talk to anybody on the phone. Just go the website and order there. What am I missing?

Also I've never bought from Admiral and didn't know they had a site where the sold blade steel since I'm still new to all of this. I did notice the listed price for their 52100 is like $88/ft. Surely that's a misprint right? Supposed to be price for 12' instead of the 12" listed maybe?

phorizt, I buy stainless from Admiral in 6 foot lengths and it comes in a round tube with metal caps that you could drive your truck across without damage. Pull the screws and pop out the end. I had to use an angle grinder the first time I opened one. They have been great to deal with in my experience ( on time and no problems) although there were some negative comments in the past about them on this forum. Sometimes maybe a person change makes all the difference in the world ( I am guessing) . I just bought twelve feet of CPM 154 from them and I am happy as ever with their service. Fast delivery and good prices! Not to omit the other good steel suppliers I also buy from the others too but I thought some one should speak up for Admiral so I did. Larry

nothing but positive experience with admiral from me... can't say the same for every supplier, but every time I've ordered from admiral they seemed very professional.

You get the same tube from Aldo. The "issues" that I saw with Admiral were strictly with their carbon steels. Nothing consistently horrible, just not as good as other options. I think I did get an inclusion in one bar or 1075 or 5160 and some people don't like the "bait and switch" on the L6 "substiture" 8670M or the 9260 for the 1 inch 5160.

I live about an hour from Admiral steel. I've used them once or twice in the past and never had issues. That said, I usually order from Aldo for 1095 due to makers claiming to have had quality issues with Admiral's 1095 in the past.

Aldo also offers a couple of steels that I've used which Admiral doesn't.

That said, if I was ordering 154CM, I'd probably take a look at Admiral, since it would likely be a bit cheaper for me.

I ordered a bunch of 1084 from Admiral years ago. It was great steel and good service..I also ordered some 1095 that had inclusions in it once but still good service..We also order from usa knifemaker and occasionally jantz..My go to however is Aldo plain and simple..Also you can do internet orders with Aldo..Lisa just made an order a few minutes ago through Aldo's website..
