Admitting you have a problem is the first step!

No no no…
First step was coming to BladeForums… second step was discovering Busse.
Third step was discovering Bussekins thinking they’re less expensive and just as good… fourth step was buying your first anything Bussekin.
Fifth step was becoming a part of this sub. After that there’s no going back for your bank account.
That’s how this addiction starts.

Oh wait. You meant first step to recovery??? 😂🤣🤣😂🤣 As if there was such a thing.

Here is a semi-serious comment.

You only need two Busse knives. A small one of your choice, and a bigger one.

Just use the two until they break or become worn out, or you die, whichever comes first.

All knives beyond the two are are a waste of resources.

The solution is to give all knives beyond the two to your friends, or sell them. Count yourself as a fortunate person because you own two Busse knives.

One other thing. Do not even think of buying a knife made by any other person or company. You don’t need them. Remember you have the two Busse knives, and that’s all you will ever need.

If you have any knives made by others, sell them now.

Do not check regularly in the “for sale individual fixed blades” forum. Do not check on any big auction sites. Do not check anywhere else on the internet. You will save a lot of time.

You only need the two user Busse knives, one small one and one big one.

Plus maybe a backup or two if something appears on your radar that is really special.

What about that mid-size do-it-all knife? The minimum for me is something bear-cub or lil’smokey sized, then something RMD-size, then something TGULB/HR Size, then something Mistress-sized. But also something like a 1311 for quick swings instead of hard chops.

Don’t forget the matching set that I occasionally let my wife confíscate. (So I’d still have something to use during the confiscation period.)

And that set I’m building for my daughter.

And that set that I’m building for my younger daughter.

And that set my wife would need later, when she comes around from denial to finally acceptance.

Then a set for my FIL when he gets jealous.

Then a set to gift to my best Bud.

Then a set for my two future in-laws.

🤔🙄😜

I can and do use More then 2 in the field. If your friends get sick of you pushing busse/kin on them hit me up brother 😀

and also remember, relapse is always worse.
so be very careful in considering recovery ;):D
Very true! I was in recovery for a few years. Sold all I had (😭) because of a divorce. Well, I fell off of the wagon, and now I'm happier than I've ever been.. I miss what I had, though.. 😁

The comment about having (and needing) just two knives, one big and another small is probably somewhat based in truth for most of us. Back in the day, the local butcher used a super heavy cleaver as well as an array of other knives for processing. Specialized tools were needed for various jobs etc. That massive cleaver would not be used as a trimming blade or a skinner unless the wielder had enormous power in his grip. I've noticed that many of the older cleavers have hammer marks on the back of the blade where they were used on frozen foods or bone. Fosters made a lamb splitter with a 12 inch blade which would be akin to the Dirty Trick.

The reason you don't see too many smaller knives for sale is that they are being used! My AMS and Pork Shank fall into this popular category. Of course, most of us don't use the knives that we have. If the truth is told, the larger knives (many of which I love) tend to get utilized much more infrequently.

The act of collecting is an entirely different matter. This exercise is just plain, uninhibited delight. The true collector is never totally satisfied!
