Just got an Andrenaline 178BK - Titanium liner lock, Aluminum frame and ATS-34 blade. Something's not quite right. One handed opening doesn't consistently get the liner lock to engage. When the liner lock does engage the back of the blade, it is barely catching it. I have to hold the knife with two hands and pull the blade open to get the liner lock firmly engaged.
The blade is not centered when closed. I slightly tightened the pivot screw which helps to center the blade, but makes the knife too tight to open one handed.
I've sat here and worked the knife open and closed a couple hundred times to see if it "breaks in". It seems a little better now since a very hard one handed opening will engage the liner lock but in order to really get it firmly behind the blade I still need to two hand it open.
It seems to me that if I took the knife apart and filed a few thousandths off the back of the blade (or off the front of the liner lock) that it would engage better.
Cosmetically, the anodizing could be a little better too. But I'm a picky SOB.
The sticker on the box has a build date of July 18, 2005, but the blade has the upside down T on it from last year. I wonder if the coating from anodizing is to blame for the slight "mis-fitting"? The blade, the liner and the handle all have a coating on them.
Truth be told, I didn't buy this one as a pure user but rather one to put away (not that I think it's going to neccessarily become a collectible) so the idea of "breaking it in" is tough for me since it isn't going in the EDC rotation.
Is this something that Buck would (or could) adjust for me or should I just leave it as is?
Thanks,
-Mike
