Hehe- or so it says on the box. We had complained to the kids about the problems of toasting the current huge (ie-Bread Company) bagels.

Even our large-slot toaster would often burn one side, or, in the case of our fave "Cinnamon Crunch" jobs, set same on fire....

They bought us a Hamilton Beach toaster with ABT...hehe.

Actually works. Extra-big slots; and when you stick the bagel in and punch the LED "bagel" button, only one side of the elements heat up! So, the cut side gets toasty, while the round side just gets warmed.

Aficionados of the "traditional" bagel are probably disgusted.

we've been using a small toaster oven instead of toaster for years, works great.

Mmmmmmmm, Cinnamon Crunch.....droooooooooooooooooooooooool.
Matt

Hey,
Mwerner, you going to the StL knife show?

Didn't realize that research was still going into the toaster market. I may have to get rid of my old toaster just to get one with ABT. hehehe

And to think, the toaster I have right now is over 15 years old!!!

For those who don't know the bagel properly made has a chewy texture. It is properly made by first putting it in boiling water ( water bagels). Unfortunately may "bagels" today have a light texture and should be avoided. Also many people new to bagels seem to cut themselves frequently instead of cutting the bagel.

At the university here, we used to get excellent traditional bagels from a place (Petrovsky's, I believe) in neighboring Clayton.

Alas, it's increasingly hard to find these anywhere in the area, and the food service has gone for a light, bready bagel. The St. Louis Bread Company does not make a traditional bagel either, but thiers are considerably better than the drek the food service here has been providing!
To me, there's nothing better than one of those heavy, boiled poppy-seed jobs.

I cut my bagels in 4 slices with three strokes of a CUDA Maxx or a leuku. :D But you should get all but the biggest bagels sliced in two into a toaster if you slice evenly.

The best way is to warm them with the toaster oven unsliced, then cut them open as if they're fresh baked!

I like to slice 'em in half and throw a slab o' spam on one side, A LOT o' slivers of cheddar on the other, put it in the toaster oven, and then put it together with the beaten egg I just microwaved... Does this 'ABT' thing apply to toaster ovens? I like my Bagels stuffed with 'products'.;)

But that´s not Kosher, (actually I sometimes use ham).

I only know of two places in Mexico that make Bagels, for some reason that I don´t understand only the poppy seed and the onion types from one maker have the chewy consistence, the other makers´s and kinds just don´t feel the same, I should import some from Montreal.

I usually don´t like to toast Bagels, only when they are getting a bit old and tough, get several thin slices from each and use a toaster oven or just on the stove.
