I’m hoping that Larry, Vern, or Joe can clear up some of the confusion that is swirling around in my brain (doubtful, but....).
In response to a post concerning stag Rangers, by 535sawby on 4-14-02, Joe stated that about 1400 of them had been produced between 1983 and 1987. Since Buck supposedly began production of the 4-dot 112’s in late 1982, I’m totally lost by the following discoveries.
Within the last year I have seen photos of a MIB stag 2-dot with the correct box and papers for the time period when it should have been made. 535 sawby posted a pic of a MIB stag 3-dot. I purchased a used stag 3-dot Finger groove model from Smokey Mountain Knife Works. They swear that the knife was part of a special run that Buck did for them a number of years ago. Finally, I just saw a photo of a used stag no - dot! None of the knives have a “Custom” stamp on them, even though the Custom Shop would have been open during the time period when some of them were made. My question for you guys is this: Are these stag 112’s regular production, special order, custom shop, or after-market re-slabs? Heeeeeeeeeelp!
All this has made me dizzy, I think I’ll go lay down.

KNOWLEDGE THAT IS NOT SHARED IS LOST.

A possibility is that Buck found a supply of older blades and used them along with the newer 4 dot blades. It would be interesting if it could be found out exactly when the special order for SMKW was completed.

No matter what, all those 112s in stag with the different blades would make a nice little collection.

Dave, SMKW told me that the the special run of stag 112 FG's was done for them something in the early 1980's. My theory on the stag rangers is that a number of them were special runs, of limited number, done in the rework area using whatever materials that happened to be on hand. Anybody got any other ideas or information? Racer Roy :D
