Advantage Of Stainless Steel Bottle?

Hey guys,

I have always had a good Tritan Nalgene bottle with me when i go on a hike or camping, but it seems a lot of folks round here prefer a stainless bottle. I was out today and bought a Nalgene 38oz Guyot bottle because I found one for $14, where everyone else wants $25.

Whats the advantage of the stainless bottle over Tritan?

I think the ability to boil water is the main reason, I know ya can boil water in a nalgene also but you have a bit more confidence in stainless !

paranoia: when will they discover another carcinogenic chemical leaching out of the plastic?

Yeah, whenever they discover one hormone-disrupting chemical and ban it, another one pops up and is declared toxic.

I ditched my old Nalgenes cause of the BPA thing, but when they started putting out BPA-free bottles i went back to them.

As has been said, you can boil water if needed. Also, winter camping causes your water to freeze overnite. You can thaw it out by heating it in the bottle.

Guess I knew the answer before I asked. I figured, but thought I'd see if there was anything else. Thanks guys.

Hope it aint "deal spotting" but Drivebytrucker, I got mine at my local Dick's Sporting Goods.

Just be careful that you get one that does not have an inner coating to it, which usually contains BPA or a similar chemical. Some companies will coat the inside to keep the water from developing a metallic taste, which some people do not like (myself included). I personally use a Camelbak Better Bottle. It's like a sippy cup for grown ups. ;)

i like the idea of being able to boil water in the steel nalgene bottles but prefer carrying the plastic (BPA free) nalgene bottle with a gsi glacier stainless steel mug.

its alot lighter to carry this method and more versatile IMO.

I make tea in mine almost every week.

Nothing fancy.I just bent some wire hangers to shape and the heat did the rest.it's rock solid now.

I prefer my plastic bottle and a nestled pot/cup. I don't like having to use my bottle for cooking, I'd rather use it for storing water and cooking in something else. Of course, this is much more expensive and kind of necessitates having a water bottle holder also.

To me, water out of the SS bottles just tastes better and always seems cooler which is usually more refreshing also. When you add to that the ability to boil and no chemical leaching, it's an easy choice for me.

I prefer plastic as I can see the contents easily. I dont boil out of my bottle, so I dont need metal
