Alright, my very first thread. Seems like a great forum with loads of knowledge, experience and mods who keep the spam at bay. Bravo!

What are your thoughts on the Spyderco Adventura as an EDC.

VG-10? Sounds good, but I'm still a little confused about the steels and their attributes.

Think the slots would invite pocket lint, dirt, spare change in to gum up the works? As far as use goes Ill probably use it for everything but a shovel. I've never owned a Spyderco but I know they have a good reputation. Maybe there is a review somewhere? Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to Bladeforums! :)

I've got an Adventura and I like it a lot. Depending on your use for it, it can make a great EDC. It is fairly light for an all-steel knife. The grip is comfortable and secure. The clip can be repositioned for up or down, right or left hand carry. I have found the edge has held up nicely and still shaves after some rigorous use. That's usual for VG-10, though, an excellent steel.

I do think of it as my Star Trek knife, sort of the daily carry Mr. Spock might like, a little out there in its design. I do think the slots could pick up dirt, but since I carry clipped to the top of my pocket, that's not an issue for me.

Steel is a complicated subject. You need to know what the knife will be used for to determine a good steel for that use, and the steel has to be heat treated properly to bring out its best characteristics. Very important is the blade geometry, whatever the steel.

K2500 Welcome to the Forums,
I carry Adventura almost every day for last 6 month. I love this knife; it is one of my favorites. I have two of them. One user and Spyderco Forum knife as keeper.
It is very comfortable in my hand, and if your hands bigger than mine, you can use finger choil. Beautiful blade, VG10 holds edge well and it not too much trouble to sharpen. The only concern, like with any SS handle knives, if your hands get wet, it can slip. I use it mostly indoor.
It is great knife. I highly recommend.

Outstanding refrences Esav, theres no such thing as to much information.
Glad its not to hard to sharpen I'm kinda new to sharpning so thats definitly a plus. Thanks for the info guys.

The recurve may take a little getting used to when sharpening, but the Adventura's isn't all that deep, so it won't be too hard. I've never had trouble touching up recurves on the corners of the Spyderco Sharpmaker stones.
I love the Adventura's blade shape. Most of my recurves have "drop points" without much drop, and wider, steeper bellies in front of the recurve. I much prefer the Adventura's pointier profile, and less aggressive curvature. Looks like a fine knife. I want one, though it would be redundant and then some for me. If I buy another folder anytime soon, it'll probably be an Adventura or a R2(or a BM635), though.
btw, VG-10 is an excellent steel for a knife this size, with decent toughness and edgeholding. Resists corrosion very well in my experience, and is easy to sharpen. If you read up on it, you'll see a lot of comments about how easy it is to get and keep a great edge with VG-10.

my only complaint, and i think you will notice this yourself is when its cold out; your knife is very cold, and when its hot out ,and you left it in your car;yea-ha.

Not really, no more so than any other all-metal knife I carry, since I keep my knife in my pocket, where the temperature is much more moderate than out in the cold or in direct sun.
