Well, today I headed out to the most adventurous spot the city bus gets to.
Headed along the trail, and came across what at first glance looked like a tent set up by a hobo (they have really taken over and trashed another spot that used to be good for adventure). Turns out this was actually an experiment in progress though.
The path to the more adventurous spot was completely flooded, creating an impassable swamp. I spotted another path that might not be flooded...so pulled out the Ka-Bar Ek Bowie to clear the branches blocking the path. Didn't cut so well at first; turns out I was using the back of the blade. The handle does not tell you which way the edge is oriented, and I thought I'd put it in the sheath the other way. It cut better once the edge was used.
However, that way was flooded too, so I took stroll through the prairie lands, where this was the most use I got out of the knife:
Not very hardcore, to say the least.
However, thanks to some handy gift shop turtles, I was able to create a great "nature shot."
Finally, once back in the city proper I sheltered from the rain with a nice coffee:
So you see, I get it.
I understand all those who say we don't "need that much knife" for most things, because we often don't. We spend time in city environments where the most use of a knife is often for a picture to post online, and even when going on a hike, the places frequented by the "white man from town" crowd often allows little knife usage either (bonus points if you know where that quote comes from
).
Doesn't mean I'm gonna carry less knife though.
