I must admit that my presence has been a bit reduced around here lately. This is simply because I have been out of range from regular city type of living. I actually like that to some extent. I always think of how important it is for people to do what they love, in life and in play. I have the privilege of doing two things that I consider, the love of my life. One is, play music for a living and the other is obviously, the great outdoors. I have been doing both for years now but more recently started to them on a greater level. I feel very fortunate to be able to do both with my time. After all, there is nothing more important than time to me. I know I could always make more money but time is impossible to get back. So rather than sit and talk about the same topics and tools I’ve been using, I have decided to do more and talk a little less. I will be leaving yet again on another adventure for the South Pacific to play music and play in the outdoors. I will be playing drums at night and spending the days and nights in nature. I feel that the experiences of going to places not so typical are the best ways to know the world around me. Like learning any new style of music reading and seeing pictures are not enough for me, it must be experienced entirely. I always feel the need to do things as authentically as possible. Talking about knives and gear can sometimes make as much sense to me as dancing about architecture. I would rather try to go live it as much as possible and see for myself. Knives and all other sharp pointy things are really such a small part of the entire outdoors experience and I really like to capture those things that don’t make it into knife reviews/articles. That is the real adventure to me! There is so much that is experienced and felt from a long drive, airplane, bus, boat, or cab ride. People, sights, sounds, smells and of course, the food can often have the biggest meaning and hold the most value in our overall feeling of the place we visit. Sometimes I feel the memories are so strong they no longer are just simple memories but a part of my life. In everything I do I hope there is a bigger meaning than the words on any forum or in any magazine. Thanks everyone for all your support over the years.

A very special thanks to the RAT Team (Mike, Jeff) your friendship and influence will forever guide me!

You da man, Reuben! You were made to be an adventurer. I knew this the first time we ever met you in the Amazon. A lot of people like to travel, I lot of people like the outdoors, but very few are just suited to be anywhere at any time and be comfortable where they are, with what they have on their back, no matter if it's in the middle of a war zone, the back alley of some Third World slum talking to the locals, or in an upscale restaurant dining with suit and ties. This kind of stuff will probably kill us some day (In fact, I'm sure it will), but so be it. Being able to see the world and all its good and bad has forever changed my life, my beliefs, my politics. It has also given me a very healthy respect for this great country that we live in, even with all her problems. I think every boy and girl should have to see the world at least once in their life, armed with nothing more than a smile and a 80mm lens.

Onward, brother!

WOW thats truly touching, you seem to be an extraordinarily lucky man but it sounds to me like you have made most of that luck yourself :D

i can only hope that some day i will be half as spiritually successful as you are.

Have fun in the south pacific

God Bless! May your journeys continue, and may each new experience good or bad, impart on you greater knowledge and understanding, and further your kinship with mother nature and those of human kind who you will change and who will change you along the way. I share your sense of adventure and your appreciation of new experiences; I only wish I had your courage (maybe some day). Take care and enjoy!

Good luck Reuben.

You are one of those guys that can't just be kept down.

Get on the forums now and then to update us on where you are and what you are doing.

Best travels.

Thanks all. I sent a few PMs to a few friends today to say that everything is cool! I was just trying to get across why I haven't been on so much and may not be on so much for a while. I think some people got the wrong idea and that may be my fault. It is not a last thread type of thing at all. I enjoy and love writing for the magazines and forums, just gonna be living it a little more thats all.

Amen to that!
I Visited the Dominican Republic a few years ago.
I stayed for two weeks in Santo Domingo and lived with the locals.
No fancy hotels.
We also got to go into the mountains (hills actualy) and saw how they lived over there.

I now understand how lucky we are to live here in the USA.

We were on a Mission trip with our church. We painted one church over there and helped build a camp for kids up in the hills far away from the city. They had some crazy large spiers up there too.

The people we met were very wonderful and kind.

I'll rember that trip for the rest of my life.
