Hi everyone! I'm new here, but have been lurking for a while. This seems like a knowledgable place and I have learned a lot from reading. I have always been interested in survival and wilderness skills, but haven't gotten to do much in it. I have been practicing with ferrocium rods since reading here. It is harder than I would have expected, but I am improving.

I'm looking for something to carry in a small survival/wilderness kit for shelter. The Adventure Medical heatsheet or bivvy has been mentioned as a good option. Do any of you all have any experience with these products? If so, can they be reused a number of times or are they more of a one-time thing like space blankets? Also, do they pack small?

Thank you all very much.

I recommend the bivi as you can get into it out of the wind and rain. They will not keep you warm in a ll temps of course and you need ground insulation as it will suck the heat right out of you. For what they are they are effective.

they are a decently built product. They do puncture but dont tear like mylar. they are much more quiet as well. They pack down almost the size of mylar and are light and compact.

Well worth the money, they are reusable and a little duct tape fixes the odd puncture.

I carry them in all my kits of various sizes except my pocket kit.

I carry an AMK bivy and a Sportsman's All Weather Space blanket (the big heavy red one) that has a hood and hand mitts. I also keep a heatsheet, but it is really more for groundcover... The bivy is reuasable and the Sportsman is VERY reusable. If I could have only one, it would be the Sportsman...

I highly recommend them too. I carry the reg heatsheet in my cargo pocket and the bivy in my pack. They are cheap(3 bucks) and the work without ripping like skammer said.
I also recommend carrying the one that can wrap two people instead of the smaller one. You never know when you might need more.
