 I've got the Ultralight kit, and one of the supposedly "waterproof" bags in it has split open completely below the seal... now I buy an emergency bivvy from them, and the thread around the mouth of the stuff sack is almost completely unraveled right out of the package. I don't know if it's crappy QC or just cheap products in general, but I think I've had enough of them. Has anyone else had similar experiences, or am I just getting lemons?

Defiently sucks, I haven't had that, we use the heatsheets for SAR, as well as bivys for personal use. Almost all of our personal firstaid kits are AMK and haven't had troubles. I would say lemons, but im just going on what I see of them.

odds are with the aloksak it was mishandled in shipping or the store, the bivy must have slipped by.
I have used and relied on their products for years, most consider them good quality.
Email them and I bet they will do something.

Contact AMK and they will fix it. I bought one of the Leader 10 Essentials kits some time ago and asked about replacing the Iodine packet that came in the kit with a bottle instead. I sent an email requesting the exchange. They sent it to me for free and shipping on their dime. They let me keep the iodine packet.(It's a 1-2 ounce packet I can never see using all of the contents at one time, this was why I requested the bottle and that is what was supposed to be included, but they had changed it.)

I have been using their stuff for many years and have had no problems. I would contact them. Most of these type of companies are really good at CS.

like was mentioned, call them- they WILL take care of it

I purchased a large quantity of several of their items (putting together 14 survival kits) and all was good. I visited with them several times getting questions answered, very responsive.

I have owned several of their products, and all have been quality. I believe it must have been a quality control issue.

AMK makes good stuff, though the aloksaks arn't the most durable bags to be opening and closing often.

I'll give 'em a call tomorrow. From what everyone has said, it sounds like this isn't typical of them at all.

keep in mind too that the AMK kits in the plastic envelopes, are NOT designed for daily use. They are meant as something you throw into your pocket or pack and use when its an emergency. If your looking for daily or occasional use gear, AMK aint it.

let the hate emails begin!

I've never had any trouble with their products. They must just be some QC flubs, as everyone has stated. I would suggets taking them back to the retailer, if possible, and exchanging them.

So...there are designed to be used as any other FAK?

If you're using your FAK everyday put the knife down and walk away. AMK makes things for their intended purposes, nothing less. Everything they make that's intended to be used frequently holds up flawlessly. They make great SAM splints, and the best EMT sheers I've used. Their FAK are not cobled together with cheap crap, everything in it will work when it needs to.

about the Aloksak do you open and close it frequently?

I use the comprehensive kit , unfortunately quite frequently, and it's well put together.
It better be for $200 !

yes and their intended purposes for their vinyl or aloksak packaged survival kits or faks are emergency use, not daily use or as a woods bumming kit. Something you throw into a pocket as a last ditch item. Their bigger FAKS in the nylon pouches are very well made. I cannot say the same about the ones packaged in the vinyl envelopes. The stuff inside is just fine, but the envelopes are garbage.

as for the aloksaks, great for one time use if you dont need to open and close them. The area just below the seal wears out very quickly and tears.

got a review on them over at http://www.wildsurvive.com/outdoor-camping-forum/index.php/topic,4310.0.html

EDIT: it appears AMK has done away with the vinyl envelope survival kit & micro FAK i was referring to and replaced them with a nylon envelope. Perhaps the OP could up a pic of the kithe has? it may not be the one i'm refering to....

I had a bad aloksak in a pack I bought, emailed them, and they sent out a replacement right away, similar failure to yours. The new ones have a different color of seal, smoke, as opposed to black, so maybe they had a few just miss QC. I had the same problem with my Bivy carry bag, but I fixed it, figure that it's not that big a deal.
I use the Aloksak for my passport and other important docs.ymmv
