I'm new to knife sharpening and have been very much enjoying myself. This is awesome! I'm still learning, but can get decent edges using either the Edge Pro Apex, a diamond "stone", or the Work Sharp KO Mk2.

As part of this enjoyment, I've gone through my personal knives. Then worked on my sister in laws knives. Then my Scout troops knives.

Soooooo...now what?

I put out a notice on our neighborhood listserv letting folks know that I'm offering free knife sharpening service. I let them know that I'm new to this hobby and was looking for additional knives to sharpen to help me learn this skill.

I've had several folks (half dozen) take me up on the offer so far. One neighbor dropped off this Cutco knife today:

I'm unwrapping this knife to inspect it while she's with me and the neighbor sort of sighs and says: "Yeah...that one is kind of a mess."

I let the neighbor know that I believed that Cutco offers knife sharpening services. She said that sounded like kind of a pain.

I told her that I don't have tools at this point in my knife sharpening journey to be able to recreate the serrations that were damaged. She just looked at me and said, what can you do?

I said, "If you would like, I can remove the serrations and make a new edge." She said, "That sounds terrific!"

Umkay....here goes!

Final product:
