After using a flat ground blade (Calypso jr. and millie)
I'm totally hooked.
I look at hollow ground blades and just think they could be so much better with a flat ground blade.
Has Spyderco ever considered doing like educational ad explaining the merits of flat ground blades?
Maybe they should, but then again, I'm no expert. :(

What are the merits?

If you take two blade stocks of equal thickness, and make one hollow and one flat, the flat ground one will slice and pushcut through most materials a little better, and will not "hangup" on dense materials like a hollow ground sometime will.

It's kind of hard to explain...Edge geometry is the deciding factor in how a blade cuts, coupled with its blade thickness. Buy a swiss army knife or Calypso Jr. and you will see.

I totally agree. Spyderco is nailing it with their flat ground blades, for folders and fixed blades (and their use of VG10 and S30V).

One additonal advantage is to make the secondary bevel a convex grind profile. The edge will be lower angle and the performance increase is very noticable.

I did this to a BM flat ground blade and what a difference.
