I wasn't sure if this was the best place to post this so if it isn't please let me know.

I'm looking to find and buy a good quality Slip Joint Wharncliffe knife ... I was looking at the Northwoods Hawthorne Jack or Forest Jack in Stag or Green Micarta ... I have also looked at a Tony Bose Swayback.

I haven't found anything in stock anywhere and was hoping to get some suggestions or advice on where to look or at other options for a single blade Wharncliffe with good blade steel ... whether high carbon or a premium stainless ... just not a generic "surgical stainless steel".

I am open to used if in excellent condition ... and open to other brands also ... I own a handful of slip joints but admit my knowledge about them isn't nearly what it is on modern folders or fixed blades.

So any guidence would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks JJ

How about a Fantoni Dweller? I absolutely love mine...

It's 19c27 steel which seems to be the equivalent of BD-1. It's an oddball design but a fantastic knife... bladereviews has a really nice review of it...

One I'm not familiar with but a good looking knife ... I willhave to look closer at it ... thanks for the suggestion!!!

There are plenty of Trestle Pines Superiors available, both the original run with 154CM steel and the newer run with CPM-154CM. I don't know if that dealer is a BF paid member, so I'm PM'ing you the link.

You could go GEC Improved Trapper #48 and get a Muskrat Clip blade with your Wharncliffe. Collectorknives has some left, and I'm also including a link to another dealer from whom I love to order.

Case has some cool patterns with Wharncliffes. Also, if you watch the Traditionals exchange on here, a GEC #47 Viper will pop up at least once a week. I personally prefer the GECs to the Northwoods because I'm not really in to that saber grind rustic blade.

Thanks I haven't had any top tier slip joints a few older Cases a Bull Dog and a couple older Hen & Rooster so I'm trying to find one like these with good steel ... I'll check out the om and thanks!

I've heard good about the GECs just don't know the models to look for ... gonna enjoy looking for these.

Thanks I was looking for the supporting dealers list but was having trouble finding it on the new format.
I try to buy there whenever possible.

And I'm hoping to get ideas so I'll know what to look for on the exchange.

That has been the problem I've had since I started searching most are out of stock. But figure as helpful as everyone on this subforum is I'll get lots of good suggestions ... thanks!

If you don't mind a Swayback Gent instead of a Swayback Jack, this model is still available at collectorknives.net. The steel is just regular ole' Case Tru Sharp but it isn't bad.

The Case/Bose Norfolk is probably my favorite traditional knife with a Wharncliffe blade but they are kind of scarce these days.

+1 for the Norfolk, but they are very hard to find and expensive. I also like the Viper for a little larger, single blade wharncliffe.

I love this subforum ... within 5 minutes I've gotten about 6 great suggestions ... now to read and look a bit longer ... but can't say thanks enough for how you all help out and always give some great suggestions.

Some are new to me and I may end up with a couple ... from finding none to several ideas to try to pick just one ...

Queen is currently making some interesting patterns with Wharncliffe blades. The Schatt & Morgan (Queen made) #43 Jumbo Half Whittler looks like a real nice knife but I don't have one myself. I just checked them out before posting this and now the Red Elk is on my want list.

Some great looking suggestions Thanks!!!

I was looking for a single blade Wharncliffe but have to say I am liking the Northfield #48 Improved ... and the Fantoni Dweller is a nice looking knife ... think if they had it in stock in Green Micarta it might be in the cart ... but it may get added to my wish list.

I appreciate all the great suggestions and such quick replies ... I'llhave to make some choices and after I decide and get one ordered 'll post some pics.

Thanks again JJ

The GEC 47 Viper is a great knife. It's not currently in production but pops up on the exchange quite often.
