Poor Cindy! Please get well soon!

Helpful tools? Servants!

My best wishes for a fast and uneventful recovery.

Go to Subway and ask for a bunch of sandwich bags. If you've got one of those casts that you have to keep dry, the sandwich bags from Subway will hopefully be long enough to keep you dry when showering. Bags from Safeway or Jewel or whatnot will likely have holes, and most garbage bags will be too big. I fractured my wrist in April, and the bags from Subway made things so much easier. That and 2 weeks of paid vacation that my employer owed me.

BTDT. Fractured both sides at once. Wasn't really any easy way to get around, just keep it airtight and dry when washing. Hire some Merry Maids to clean up the big stuff. Rest up and when it's healed don't forget to exercise and work it back to normal. Mine still kills when it rains, 10+ years later.

Good luck

Cindy, hope you heal quickly. I also hope all your knives open with one hand.

I agree that Subway sandwich bags could be the key to your recovery--hell, to your very existence as you know it.

Backpack might make carrying stuff easier. Just load it with one hand and sling it over a shoulder.

One tactic: Just let things go to hell in a handbasket. He'll realize just how great you were before the fall.

Are you going to be able to continue training for races on your lawnmower?

Cindy,

I'm sorry to read that you hurt yourself!.:(. It's time to put Geno to work around the house...Put an apron on him if you have to, but tell him to "get 'er done" while you can't.:D.

Sweety...Heal well, and quickly, (and I sure hope that you have good medical insurance...).

When I was younger I broke both my wrists at the same time...

Laugh at my misfortune you should feel better !!

I broke my right hand and so i decided to learn to be a lefty from now on. I clamped my sharpening stick holder to the table so i can sharpen my knives. I already use my mouse on the left but if you need to you should put it on the side that aint broke. I wear velcro sandels and anything velcro is better than string. Dont use your broken wrist hand and keep it in a slightly bent position and keep a slight bit a pressure in a direction away from the direction of the break. Disclaimer: I am not a medical professional (you should seek professional advise).

I hope it gets all the way back to normal and that it gets that way asap.

Take care Cindy,

thank you so much everybody, i did figure out how to wash the dishes, wash clothes, clean the bathroom with 1 hand but the subway bags sound great, never would have thought of that but since i can't cook right now Subway sounds really good! i think i need my mommy.:o

You left out bringin' home the bacon and fryin' it up in a pan. :D

Impressive nonetheless.

One time my cousin messed up his ankles just when he was going to have his daughter visiting for a week. Kid was about 8.... The two of them lay around watching tv, playing video games, and having pizza delivered for breakfast, lunch, and dinner ... for a week. The kid was happy as a clam. :)

It only takes one hand to dial the phone....

As a fellow knifenut, I will recommend one of these:

When I got hit by a car last year, I didn't break my wrist, but it was pretty sprained. If you have a hard cast, you can brace stuff you're carrying against it and things like that. Otherwise, theres a fair amount of frustration in your future.;) Hope it goes well.

My wife just came out of her cast from doing the exact same thing, fell while walking the dog, broke both bones just above her left wrist. She had to have surgery and get a hunk of metal put in to hold things together.

Her solution: I do the cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc, etc, etc. I think maybe she got used to the idea and that healing process slowed down a bit.

I broke my wrist (scaphoid, and tore 2 muscles, stretched one), radius, ulna, humerous a few years ago. Right arm, and I'm right handed.

Amazing how you learn to do with your weak hand.

You will be even more amazed at how quickly you will adapt to one hand.

Be careful, and I hope you didn't do too much damage to the wrist. I was amazed at how fluggin complex it is, and how one bone can make a lot of trouble.

Take care kiddo.

Just use your feet to wash the dishes and prepare food. It only takes a few days to get the toes to work like fingers. The food tastes kinda funny though!

LMAO... anybody else remember Bonnie Consuelo? I remember seeing a movie in highschool about her. Some woman who had no arms, and how she went about her day. Cracked me up when she swatted a fly with her foot.

Get well soon Cindy! I'm sure Ryan will be running amok (actually looking forward to it...:D ) in your absence.
