I need something fairly heavy duty that can be used like a fixed blade but carried in my pocket. Need to be able to chop and cut branches with it as well as lighter tasks around camp. Been thinking Buck but what about others. I want something tough that won't break

In keeping with the Traditional Folders theme of this particular forum, I'd have to recommend a Buck 110. It's not quite up to heavy chopping, but its pretty stout.

Why not get a modest folder and a fixed blade or machete for chopping duties? Folders aren't really good for chopping.

Extrema Ratio had some folders at Blade that looked like M1 tanks. I'd call them folding fixed blades - Lee

Also along with "mtnbkr" to keep within the frame of orginal request, re price range, mtnbkr's suggestion is a good one. There are several folders out there that would "chop branches" but most are meant for say, 1" or so.

This forum has a great search engine, and if you use it, there have been many posts in the past with requests exactly like yours. I have seen two (at least) within the past few months, that would still be current for knives available for what you would like.
Have fun checking out all your options.:)

Get an SAK with a saw. The Rucksack and Trailmasters are good choices in the larger locking models. The Hiker, Camper, Huntsman, and the three layer Pioneer models for standard size models.

Ditto the SAK with a saw recommendation. I use a Victorinox Trailmaster.
