I need something fairly heavy duty that can be used like a fixed blade but carried in my pocket. Need to be able to chop and cut branches with it as well as lighter tasks around camp. Been thinking Buck but what about others. I want something tough that won't break

If you need a hefty knife with a very strong lock, this could be the Spyderco Chinook. Designed by James E Keating, it has an S30V or CPM440V bowie style blade and steel linered handles with G-10 scales. Its front lock is MBC rated, that means it sustains about 200 lbs / inch of blade.
If you want a smaller, low profile knife, that could be the Spyderco Lil Temperance. It comes in two blade shapes (bowie and spear), also CPM440V or S30V steel, full flat ground, green G-10 handles, allows tip up / down carry and it features a compression lock, also MBC rated. It's maybe the strongest folder I've ever seen.
If you want a lighter, versatile knife than the Spyderco Military will do. Also CPM440V or S30V steel, G-10 scales with a nested heavy duty (stands 100 lbs/blade inch) linerlock.
But if you want a strong, versatile, reliable and really lightweight knife, and also cheap, than get yourself a Spyderco Endura in VG-10.

I've been very impressed by my Buck/Strider mini sp. It's tough as nails, holds an edge, great steel, with the Buck warranty.

If money is an issue, then I would suggest a Cold Steel Large or Extra large Voyager. They are one of the toughest/strongest zytel lockbacks around. The large has a 4" blade and the X-large a 5" blade.
Cheap but effective.

Other than the previously mentioned Spyderco Chinook, the my other suggestion would be a Camillus CUDA MAXX 5.5 or the next size smaller. The 5.5 is one huge knife and it is durable as all get out with a blade of a size to handle most all camp chores. But it fits a pocket with some ease and is not all that heavy since it has titanium scales.

Extrema Ratio -- M.P.C.
Strider -- AR
Greco -- (don't remember the name, but cheaper than the above.)

Well, I wouldn't really flat out "chop" anything with a folder! (that's what fixed blades and axes are for) but, if you want a TOUGH folder, SilverFoxKnows.

The Buck/Strider, SOG Tomcat, Spyderco Chinook, Al Mar SERE, and Grecos he listed are all very tough. I'll throw in a few more: Strider AR/GB, Camillus Maxx, Rekat Pioneer, a whole lot of customs, etc... there are a LOT of tough folders out there. What matters most is your price range, your intended uses, and what looks and feels good to you. If there's a knife store in your area, go there and handle everything you are curious about.

If you want to chop with a smaller blade, you might want to look into a small fixed blade. You could carry it IWB - not as convenient as a folder, but it sure does come in handy when you really have to bear down and do some really tough cutting or chopping.
