Hey forumites, I need some help. I am in dire need for a khukuri fix. I already have two, a BAS and a 20" Sirupati, but I want more. Problem is, I've noticed that the khukuris that I want are becoming progressively larger in order to have the same effect. What should I get next? I am thinking about getting either a 15" AK or a Gelbu Special (the GS is also known as a full AK, right)? I know that I am eventually going to have both, but I was just curious as to which I should get first. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I agree with Uncle Bill. I gave a Sirupati and BAS away as gifts and kept the best (15" AK) for myself.

Chris,

From what you say "becoming progressively larger in order to have the same effect" I suggest the 20" Ang Khola as a cure for your virus.

Agreed, but once you get the 15 inch AK, you'll want to try the 18 and the 21 inchers. Which is what happened to me....

Thanks for the advice. I think that I will get the 15" AK. I do not think that I can handle the 20" version. At three pounds it is probably too much for me. Maybe later, after I bulk up 20-30 lbs. Thanks again

Oh Yeah!!
Get the 20" AK and after awhile all your others will seem really light and Small!

I have the Salyan and it pretty much compares to the size of a 20" AK I understand.
After playing with it for a while my 18" AK seems little now!
It is also a lot "faster" than what I remember too.

If you mix milk of magnesia with vodka and orange juice do you get a phillips screwdriver?

Khukuri FAQ

20" AK sounds good but doesn't work! HIKV just can't be stopped. Only enough money and enough wood to chop can ease the pain.

I thought I was smart when I ordered a 20 incher for my first, and hopefully last HI because every HI was so expensive, and even worse, it was worth $$$.

I was wrong. My interest did not stop, but only changed its direction.

Christian.
My 2 cents suggestion - get either:
  • A 15" Old Faithfull AK as suggested by Pakcik Bill - the best selling HI Khuk - you will enjoy it in all your chopping spree! or ...
  • A 18" WW II which is identified as the most versatile HI Khuk by most of the forumites or ...
  • A Gelbu Special which is considered as a Khuk you suppose to have if somehow you can only have one in your life time![/list=a]Otherwise ... don't confuse yourself ... just throw a dice & get one! Then, a couple of month from now, you may throw another dice & get another one ... and so on ... at last you realize that you were already fall victim to HIKV!

Try going for the villagers. They have to be coaxed a bit more than the HI's but a little polishing, a lot of fondling, smoothing the handle, you'll find they've got just as much spirit in them. But getting them to that point takes a couple extra weeks before they are definitely and unequivocably yours alone. Some of the more special HI's have a personality you can feel while the box is still unopened. And the villagers are 1/3 to 1/2 of the HI's. And if you go for the little ones say 9-13" oal, you can carry and fondle them more often. A 9" villager or 12" village can be played with in the open without, as they say, doing it in the street and scaring the horses.

Chris22, you need these also: a good nine-incher, for a working knife, and at least one or two standard-size deer antler and/or silver mounted knives (I think these last ones will be the serious collector pieces.) Good luck. There is no vaccine for khukuri infections.

Join the crew! I started out looking for a replacement for my broken machetes. Now I drool whenever Uncle puts up a new pic. My wife asks me "Why do you need ANOTHER knife?" I can't really answer, I just know that I do. Villagers are a good alternative, as Rusty mentioned. I've got two, and, with some work, they are beatiful. However, the true beauty of these is how they perform. Roll the dice, get one, and be prepared to get more a little down the line. "Ain't no cure for the HIK blues"
