Hello bladeforums,

I need some advice. This may just be an impulse decision but im considering selling my current spyderco endura collection to start another style of spyderco collection. My current collection has taken a couple of years to establish, and is worth a decent amout of money, (maybe around $1600 investef). Of course the main reason for posibly selling is because of funds. A close friend just gave me a Spyderco Q, and i absolutely love that knife. I have been doing some research and they can get pricey. That knife is by far my favorite now, almost enough to completely start my collection over. Has anyone out there come across the same issue/want that im having.

I've never gotten to that point. My current lineup has two themes. One being every single one is in a different steel, and two that they are almost all either discontinued or sprint/exclusive models. My investment doesn't really pay off as anything that stays gets used and therefore I get my investment from their performance.

I've never gotten to the point of wanting to sell one collection to start another. I just stopped one and started another..... that would explain the hundreds I have [emoji16] [emoji16] [emoji16] [emoji16] However, financially that is an intelligent decision!

I love the Q and have quite a few of them but collecting them can be both extremely expensive and extremely frustrating. There are over 70 known designs, only a few of which are "common". Even the most common ones generally sell for prices in excess of $100 and one particularly rare one recently sold on eBay for over $800.

For me, there are just too many great Spyderco models and my finiancial resources too...lacking to justify collecting large numbers of a single variant. I have two Millies and two Dragonflies, but that's largely because I settled for 'lesser models' before finding/ponying-up for the ones I really wanted (i.e. Cruwear Millie -->Ti M4 Millie. VG10 DFly-->ZDP DFly). I may gift the VG10 DFly but the Cruwear Millie is probably here to stay.

Part of the beauty in this hobby is the decisions we each make about our collections. Those of you who have 10, 25, 50+ of anything make me smile...it's so awesome, even satisfying, though that's something I'm sure I'll never persue.

I guess my point is this: Maybe someone who has a cajillion multiples or a deeper knowledge can provide more useful advice. :D

I have done this multiple times over. Each time I find new spydies to love and abuse. I've got a few that have been repurchased (super blue caly, 440v native more than once) and I'm keeping my favorites from now on, but every 4-6 months I do a big turnover. Keeps the addiction fresh.
