Advice needed about switching blades

I've got a small plain Seb with an insingo blade and a WC Starbenza with a standard blade. I'd love it if the Starbenza had the insingo blade but haven't tried to switch out the blades. Is it possible? Seems like I've read previously that the tolerances are so tight for each individual knife that it's not a good idea but wonder if others have been successful?

If the whole knife was made to the same tolerances all the blades would basically fit into all the handles. The only issue here is that the blade tang and lock face are hand fitted so that is why the general advice is against the swapping of blades. :)

I've had really good luck swapping blades around,,, I think it's a case by case issue….obviously the more closely related the knife / blade match is the better your chances of success IE : regular to regular, 21 to 21 etc. You might try fitting one and see.

You may want to contact CRK, I think there is a thread where it was done and was sent to CRK. So, basically the Sebenza (can't recall if it was a large or small) had two blades for the one knife. From what I've read, it's a hit or miss type of thing.

In May, I purchased a large Sebenza 21 Insingo with Micarta Inlay. I was told that if the original knife was purchased in this configuration, large or small, I would be allowed to purchase an additional regular blade. The rub, I was told, is that I had to send it in, because the regular blade had to be custom fitted to the knife. When I got the knife back, it was smoother by several magnitudes. Unfortunately, during the agonizing wait of nine weeks, I had gone on a knife buying spree, and had to let it go. I still have a small Tanto Seb and an Umnumzaan.

People have done it. The main problem is that people tend to later sell such knives and then the poor buyer gets stuck with an unexpected blade swap and there is a whole warranty issue. If your going to keep em forever, do as you will, but if you sell them later, do everyone a favor and make them right.

This has been brought up in the past and Chris just chimed in with an "interesting" comment.
