Advice needed for the right knife for my Dad...

So my Dad cut the big muscle on his right palm a LONG time ago and really has no strength in his dominate thumb. He requires a flipper and/or assisted opening. Also, he usually carries on his left side for the same reason...

So I want to get him a NICE titanium framelock for Xmas this year. For some gigdern reason I though the ZT055X series would have a flipper and that would've been PERFECT.

Now I'm at a loss. So any ideas guys?

It can be any quality brand so long as the closed profile is NOT as wide as a Spyderco. He really likes the Shallot to give you an idea.

So I'd really appreciate any help. Budget is ~$200.

well i have a couple suggestions but they are not frame locks, the SOG vulcan series is rather nice but i think you should see about the arc lock it has, i personally have been able to open and close without the use of my thumb on those knives quite easily, same goes for the axis lock series from benchmade, other then that possibly a gerber paraframe?

I like the Shallot myself. :)

How about the JunkYard Dog series? One of them has to be a ti framelock.

So does he just open the knife with his left hand, or does he need to close it left-handed as well? If so, why a framelock? Just style? If that's the case, I'd recommend finding a Ti/ZDP Leek. Not terribly expensive, well built, great steel, and easy to open. Thin and narrow.

Otherwise, look into an ambidextrous knife that's easy to open. A Benchmade 580 Barrage or 585 Mini-Barrage would work. Ambidextrous AXIS lock and assisted opening. In fact, any AXIS lock works great. They can be flicked open easily with just a wrist-flick, and even easier if you disengage the lock with your index finger on the opposite side (opening and closing). If titanium is still a requirement, look for a 940/941 Ti-01 (rare and expensive, but a wonderful knife).

Kershaw Volt has a flipper
Benchmade Subrosa is assisted

Both are titanium frame locks

Update: He is now definitely carrying and opening one handed. I dont mind having something retapped or a custom clip made...

The ZDP Leek and SG2 JYD would get the blades mangled. Need something tougher. Just so more criteria fodder. Keep the ideas rollin.
