Advice needed; How would you handle this?

Hey guys,
This is an ENDED auction which I won. Got the knife today however, I noticed the knife was personalized on the opposite side of where the serial number was and also has what I assume was that members NAHC number etched in it as well. The personalization as well as the NAHC number was not included in the item description. I probably would have bid a lot differently had I known of the personalization. What would you do?

Thanks!

Well, if it has been personalized with whatever the member added to the knife, it's not mint anymore. I would contact the seller, inform him of the "problem", and tell him you wish to return it, or find some other arrangement that will give you satisfaction.
I've kept a few knives that were not as described, because shipping back and loosing shipping paid to seller, would have made it even worse.
It's a big disappointment when you open a box expecting something mint, only to find something less that what you expected.

I would probably send it back. Since the description was faulty (by omission of critical info), you did not have a meeting of the minds with the seller. Seller should be responsible for shipping, but I usually let that slide, chalking it up to "the cost of doing business". Good luck!

Thanks guys. I offered to let him refund a portion of what I spent or I can return for refund of purchase price. I'll see what the seller has to say. The seller has great feedback so I'm not worried at all about getting some sort of restitution. I certainly wouldn't have bid as high had I known all the details. I'm trying to put a set of NAHC knives that used the large lockback knife together, so bidding high was not a problem.

I just received one today that I was not happy with either. Title read "NEAR MINT IN THE BOX". It was a Buck 422 and I really didn't care so much about the knife since I have one that is mint. The box was the most important part to me.

Well, it came and sure enough there is a box, but it is for a Buck 442. I don't need that box at all. Like stated above, for the amounts I'm dealing with, I don't want to ship it back because I would eat all of the shipping costs per their policy.

I e-mailed asking for a partial refund, if they won't do that, then I'll send it all back and get what I can. The guy's rating is 99.9 with over 2000 transactiions, so I hope they'll be stand up about it.

Take care all.

My eBay purchases not being "as described" (or obvious omissions) run about 70%. Folks have made an art out of what can go unsaid....

On your knife, I would return it if it was for your collection and you can't get about 30% of your money back. Personalized knives have a much lower market value.

D&B,
Was that knife available as a general buy or was it a member's only knife? Also, was the personalization professionaly etched or "homemade"? I'm just wondering if this was done at the time it was ordered or later.

Eric,

I believe it was made available to lifetime members. The etching on it is professionally done so I'm assuming it was something that was offered for a price when you purchase the knife. I have seen other knives of the same and they didn't have the personalized etching.

As an update, the seller is sending me $50 and I'll keep the knife. I needed a LB9 for my collection and the knife is in great condition (other than the personalization) so I'm okay with it.

Thanks all,
DB

That's a great deal , glad it worked out well DB, it's a nice looking knife.

Yes, the seller was more than fair and it saved the hassle of sending the knife back. I would have no qualms with doing more business with this seller. It was the way I wish all situations like this should be. Kudos to the seller.

I would try and see if I could track down the original owner it may have been stolen and thats why he did not list it.
