As the title says, I need advice on which becker to buy, I know the "correct" answer is all of them :D, but I need the practical answer

(there is a small story behind this)

Ok, so here goes

I got on Facebook today, and I see a picture on my cousins Facebook titled "playing with my brothers trail cam"

well, in his hand is a big knife, he's holding it "menacingly", since its a joke for his brother. I ask about it, and he says its a cheap winchester but it looks cool. I laughed.

but it got me thinking, He needs a good fixed blade, I am going down for thanksgiving, I think I'll get him one.

so the first thing I think of is a Becker, but i dont know which one. I personally own a BK14 (only becker I have.....so far:p) and love it, when i am not at school, I carry it along with my Benchmade barrage.

I know he likes the winchester from the size, so I would like to get him something other than a neck knife.

So what would be a good one to get him?

PS: I will probably get the same one for myself as well

and thanks for all the advice from the beckerheads and those who arent

Oh, i forgot, I kind of want to avoid the really big beckers (knives, not machetes), dont thinnk my aunt and uncle woud be happy with me :p

For my 0.02 I reccoment the BK-2. It's a big knife in an acceptably sized package.
BK-2

did i mention it basically need something indestructible for him lol?

I just dont really know which becker is the best all around

the BK2 was the first that I looked at, I just want the opinions of the guys here before i get one

BK2 for sure.... Great all around knife! Any other Becker would probably classify as a "machete".

can you give us some ideas of what he would use it for? BK-2 is a nobrainer; those things are damn awesome. But there's a chance that the size and weight might be an issue; they're thick and heavy. The BK-7s are pretty badass because of the whole Bowie thing, so that'd be another good option because they're thinner and lighter.

My first thoughts on these kinds of requests, are the BK7.

Its a good size, weight is low, and the utility of being probably the best all around BKT out there, its my first choice.

Now, if a 7" blade is too much for other folks', the BK2 is next. It take some getting used to, but after you do, it will be hard to use other knives in the same manner. You spoke of him being hard on things, I can relate, and just short of testing his arm and aim at the same time, he won't break it. It will outlast you, him, me, and will serve as a good tool for him in the woods.

So, BK7 is my first choice, alotta knife there, or the BK2, the ultimate go to blade.

Good luck, you're gonna need it.

well it would probably end up being an all around woods knife for him whenever he uses it, deer hunting, etc... (not skinning though)

I suspect he will be a little rough with it, but he knows enough not to completely screw it up

he has a CRKT m16 that i gave him a while back that he has taken decent care of (I know, not a great knife, but better than what he was using)

What you need to do is travel into the future and pick up a tweener or two, and bring one to me while you're at it? pretty please?

Then the BK7 sounds like the one I would go with. Versitile, and a good place to start. I should know. It was my first BKT. :D

I got a lot of good use out of my CRKT M16.

Sounds like a 2 or 7 would be good for your buddy.

sounds good I think,

now i just need to decide lol. It will be either a BK2 or BK7

i know which i'd rather get, but which i will is a different story.

i have 2 things to worry about now

Money (i am a poor college student with good taste in knives), remember, I am buying 2 of whatever I get

and the more important one, his parents

I am liking the 7 more and more though

there is one other thing I fear about getting one of these though......

I agree with moose. When I first read the OP, the BK7 is what came to mind, for all of the reasons that he listed right there. Its a large knife, but not outlandish (aka, smaller than most peoples chefs knife), its also lighter than the BK2. Best yet, its basically the modern interpretation of the KaBar USMC, which has been proven time and time again as an outstanding knife.

I'm going to have to try a BK7 out one of these days :). Turns out, I'm in the same boat that you are (poor grad student :D), so I know how you feel about not getting everything you want.

Or, as the cap'n suggested, jump forward like 2-3 months and get some tweeners. They're smaller, but will be epic useful.

like moose, the 7 is both my first knife and recommendation

also don't hate on the CRTT M16. I gave away most all my folders this year. That's one of two I kept.

The 7 is a great knife and my 1st( and only BKT at the moment). Great all 'rounder as Moose pointed out.

You can't go wrong with the 7 as far as I am concerned as it is an all around do about everything ~~ and you can get him a 2 next year.!

I would be looking at the 7..... the lighter weight makes me more inclined to pick it up when heading into the woods..... no offense to my 2...... she lives in my BOB now.... there when I need her.... lol

I like my 2 a lot but I think the 7 is faster and lighter in the hand and could be carried without as much heft and would be plenty strong. It is a very well made knife.
